How to stop feeling so disrespected by this. It’s been going on for 5 months now. And it’s making me so upset. I’ve told my in laws it’s mean and makes me feel upset. They don’t stop. They make jokes of it now. My husband doesn’t get why it upsets me so much.
I’m fine with her looking like him but, she literally has ALL of my features? And I feel like I have no respect as her mother and I feel like my sacrifices and all the energy I put into growing her and caring for her is invalidated because I’m constantly bombarded with being told she looks like everyone else. To the point I feel like I’m being pitied if anyone says she looks like me lol

My in laws do this. I just laugh because my daughter is literally my clone. Any time they put in a text about how much she looks like their dad/or them, I just put up a childhood photo of myself with a laughing emoji 🤣

Oh mine is / was the spit of me but all I hear is how he looks like my partner, it used to upset me but then my family do it about me so he can see the other side and also someone said “they’re just remembering their little boy as a baby” and it helped me with the perspective of it x

When my daughter was born, my MIL did this a lot. To be fair she was the spit of her dad as a baby, but it started getting old real fast, especially when she’d come out with such random bollocks like she has your great aunt’s eyes 🙄
I made ‘jokes’ back like “Anyone would think YOU were pregnant the way you talk about my baby” “No matter how hard you try, you still won’t be able to erase the fact that she has half of my genes” “Oh this topic again? Do you not get bored of having the same conversation over and over again?” “Wait Janet, let me take a guess which dead or long lost relative you’re gonna say she looks like today” Zero fucks were given and she soon learned not to try me 🤣
I had the last laugh, as she grew older everyone says my daughter is my twin now 🤣
Just ask your husband how he would feel if everyone he knew asked him if he was the father, EVERYONE, because the baby looked nothing like him (even if it did). He’s not stupid, it’s not a nice feeling to be putdown.

Girllllll this has been MY entire motherhood experience when it comes to his family! I thought I was the only one. My husband is black and my family is Hispanic, naturally our children look mixed but his family (mainly his mother and sister) ALWAYS state and insist that ALL of our children “look exactly like ____ or ____”… they apparently NEVER look like me or any of my family members 🙄
I always have vented to my mom my frustration and I have told my husband. The one that had me taken aback was when they said my son (who clearly looks 100% Hispanic and he’s my skin complexion AND looks EXACTLY like me) looked like THEIR son (the child of TWO black parents) 😒
Honestly I think deep down they have some prejudices towards my husband being with someone that is light-skinned (because I’m also part black from my grandfather). But since I’m Boricua 🇵🇷 I’m also part PETTY 😏 So every so often I’ll send pictures of side-by-side comparisons in the group chat to validate that the kids DO look
