C section

I’m potentially going to be having a C section. However, I’ve got a huge needle phobia and absolutely petrified of the thought of a C section.
I’ve had very mixed comments from people, about what the experience and recovery is like.
Is it as bad as I’m letting myself believe?

It honestly depends on the person. My recovery was absolutely fine but my friends was a bit harder and more painful.
It all depends on you, your pain threshold and if you actually rest and don’t do too much.

In terms of the needle I’m terrified of needles, you don’t see it because its all done behind you, but you do have to sit still, once its in it starts working pretty quickly so you shouldn’t feel much after the initial putting in. I hope this helps.

Everyone had a different experience but I’m also needle phobic and was petrified of the thought of a c section.
Mine was an emergency one but even so it was not half as bad as I imagined.
I had an epidural before it ended up as a c section but the epidural failed. Just was abit pushy and pinchy feeling and stung and same as the spinal before my c section.
I just had my partner talk to me the whole time of the c section before baby came out which took my mind off what was going on and then once baby is out you don’t really even think about what’s going almost zoned out and focused on baby.
My recovery was really good - I shouldn’t have but I was doing house work by day 7 as I couldn’t just sit and not do much. Going for walks doing shopping by day 9 found it was the best thing for me to just get on with it!
But again everyone is different x

I had an emergency c section but it was still such a positive experience. My back was numbed before the spinal and I didn’t feel a thing. The staff in theatre were amazing and made me feel so calm and supported, there are so many people there looking out for you. Let your team know your worries so they know how they can best support you.
My recovery was smooth. I was uncomfortable for the first week but not really in pain as such, and it was manageable with ibuprofen and paracetamol. Within a few weeks I felt basically back to normal
I’ve heard electives are even calmer. You’ve got this, best of luck x

I had an elective c section in April. The actual surgery was a breeze in my opinion. Didn’t really feel the spinal block go in as they numb it beforehand. During the actual surgery it just feels like you’re being shoved around a bit, but not painful at all. I think I was more focused on seeing my baby for the first time so that definitely distracted me! It was all over within about 45 mins.

The recovery for me was pretty rough for about 1.5/2 weeks. Just couldn’t walk or stand for more than 5 mins without feeling a burning sensation coming from my wound. But everyone is different. Some people don’t have any pain from the start! But after that it definitely got better. I’m 2.5 months pp now and feel back to normal, more or less! Just make sure you keep on top of pain medication for the first few days after the surgery.

To put it this way, if I’m to have a second baby in the future, I would have another c section!

Everyone’s bodies are entirely different thus recovery is different for everyone just as everyone’s birthing experience will be different. I know some who have had c sections both elective and emergent and been up and about a day after with no pain, similarly I’ve known people with planned and emergent sections with absolutely awful recoveries and the same for vaginal births also. Girl I promise you, the Csection is the easiest part of the whole process!! The needle is painless as your given small numbing injections in the area before which are also completely painless!

Take your pain relief bang on time to keep it in your system (you don’t want it to wear off) and keep moving around even if a short walk takes you 40 minutes!!

The first two days are disgusting!! Nit because of pain, but because your just uncomfortable everywhere. You can’t lie comfortably so sleep is out the window. But after those days, it just becomes easier and more comfortable as your used to it!
