No advise. But I’m in the same boat. My LO is 17 months and is not talking. Waiting to hear to schedule an appointment with a speech therapist

I just started with my 17 month old 🥰 the evaluation in itself was helpful and I am going to go forward with it as I want best foundation.

I wasn’t offered resources, I was told it would come in time, I tried really hard to advocate for a referal from our pediatrician, but by the time they saw my concerns as valid my son aged out of accessing early intervention programs.

Hes set to start public school in September at the preschool that houses the speech language pathologists and ot’s of our district

If you’re being offered resources like a speech therapist, happily take them.

This seems early to me. My daughter had few words at 17 months but by 18 months she had almost 50 words and no speech and language intervention. We didn’t do anything different at all. I am in the UK and I believe here we are usually told to wait until 2.

My daughter has been doing speech therapy the last year and it has helped her SOOO much. My daughters soeechbtherapust says that repeating things your doing and using for your chikd is super helpful. Shes very into playing and structured activities. my daughters pediatrician recommended it at her 12 month appt. We started her therapy just before her 15 month appt.

Oof this seems so early! My son was saying almost nothing at that age, he’s now 2.5 and stringing huge sentences together. He couldn’t really say anything till he turned 2.

Dismissive health visitor

Today, we had a health visitor appointment for my two-year-old. The health visitor raised concerns, repeatedly suggesting he might be autistic. She noted he wasn’t giving prolonged eye contact, wasn’t talking as expected, and was throwing toys, saying it wasn’t normal for a two-year-old. I explained he is developing on his own pace—he does give eye contact normally, but he was tired as it was his nap time. He also said hi and bye with his hand, and when she gave him a cup, he creatively used a fork to pretend it was an ice cream. I also know he understands me—he follows instructions, bringing things when I ask. And as soon as we left, he started talking again—saying mama, water, and more. Despite this, she kept insisting on a referral. I also noticed that her tone shifted when I mentioned being Moroccan—she was less kind and more dismissive. I’m looking for other moms’ experiences—has anyone else had a similar situation, where a child was just developing at their own pace but still showed progress afterward?”

Nappies

UK people!

Since day one we’ve used Pampers nappies for my little girl. We tried mamia (Aldi own brand) but found they didn’t have as much padding and didn’t like the fit of them…

Has anyone found any other brand of nappy that is just as good as pampers (fit, padding, absorbency ect ect)?? My lo has quite chunky legs so need to be quite stretchy as the mamia ones seemed too tight round her legs, even with sizing up! Just trying to find if there’s any other brands to try!

Thanks!

Breast feeding and weight loss

So many people have told me breast feeding makes you loose weight. Is this true? Did you experience this?

Hope any mother can relate

My baby girl is 3 months. This is me and my husband's first baby. He recently went back to work and likes to stay in touch on his breaks and lunch as he works 12 hour days. I love that he wants to check in but he calls at the worst possible times. Coincidently it's when the baby just fell asleep or she's being fussy. Today I had just put her down for a nap and he called and she woke up right away 🫠 she was up from 6pm-midnight. She was fighting her sleep since she missed a nap and now was running on what I am assuming high cortisol levels. I been reading online if they go past about 1.5hrs without a nap they can't go down for a nap or it's harder cause they're over tired. I been telling this to my husband and it's like he doesn't understand it or maybe doesn't care. He tried helping me put her down but she kept waking up and he had to be up early so he went to bed after a while. I showered my baby to try and help her relax but she was still crying. I set the room dim and put white noise still crying. Tried feeding a little more maybe she was hungry still but she kept crying. I finally gave in and turned on a movie cause I was like ima just see if she will watch tv at this point I didn't know what to do. Anyways as soon as I put a movie on she fell asleep 😂 Is there any other moms that have babies who miss a nap and stay up for hours without being able to help them go down for a nap? I feel so alone on this as I asked my sister and she said she never experienced her babies staying up for so long without napping.
