Hi all, I had a c section a week ago and struggling to get my milk to come in, I was hoping to breast feed but I’m wondering whether my body isn’t going to be able due to having a c section, is that a thing? Has anyone else struggled with this after having a c section? Any tips or advice is welcomed!

Yep me best thing to do is get a breast pump

Definitely get an electric breast pump, I wish I had got one. I was so dissatisfied manually pumping and I gave up way too early. She’s 8 months now and I just wish I had carried on xx

Also depends if you have trouble with latching baby- if so skin to skin can help. It also helps milk come in

Keep baby on your chest skin to skin, and let baby latch, your body will produce colostrum until your milk comes in xx

There's quite a few misconceptions around c section causing this. The thing that triggers your body to start creating milk is the removal of the placenta, which happens regardless if you've had a c section or not.
That being said, if you missed the golden hour/early skin to skin because of the c section that can slow down milk production.
There's no reason you can't just because of the c section though.
Are you doing lots of skin to skin and putting baby on the boob lots?

Just to also add I see a few comments suggesting pumping but this can actually hinder your milk coming in further.

I believe it’s the detatching of the placenta that triggers milk production so absolutely happens however you have your baby. What suggests to you that milk hasn’t come in? X

I had a c section as well and no issue with milk coming through. Milk came in on day 3 despite loosing loads of blood and general anesthesia.
Depends on people rather than the type of birth!
Try loads of skin to skin and putting baby to the breast as much as possible 😊

My milk took 5/6 days to come in fully with my second baby but I latched and did skin to skin constantly and colostrum sustained him until then despite him being 11lb at birth. At day 5 he’d dropped no weight! He fed almost constantly but he did the job and brought my milk in! I’d also lost 1.7L of blood x

Yes its absolutely possible ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ get some support from the infant feeding team in your area. Try get your oxytocin levels up too. Lots of self love. Even asking your partner to massage you, kiss your neck can just help with relaxation etc.
Slow movement. I listen to reggae to help my milk flow 😂
Good luck babe!!!! Take care xxxx

I had a c section too - my milk didn’t come in until day 5 or 6 but as long as your LO is latching well and you’re doing skin to skin as well. I was super stressed as mine was born 4 weeks ago when we were having the mega heatwave and I was worried she wasn’t getting anything - she’s now gained 600g. You’ve got this mumma

I've had 2 sections and no issues with milk supply, milk came in around day 3 in both cases x
