Hi moms! Any parents with aupairs here? We recently got our second aupair to join our family. She arrived when he was 2 years old and I understand this is a difficult age but my goodness… he wants nothing to do with her. He will say hi to her and hug her but when leave for work he cries alllll day with her. I know separation anxiety starts at this age but does it stop? The au pair has no experience dealing with 2 year olds either and she’s not as motherly as I would have hoped. Just trying to figure out if toddlers all go through this or if the au pair and my son are not compatible. I can’t have him crying alllll day or her calling me while I am work. Will this happen again if we decided to get a new aupair?! HELP moms

I’ve never used an au pair but my son is at that age where he is afraid of people, so it might be difficult for him to stay with someone new for long periods. And also maybe the environment helps- does the au pair take him to the parks etc , as if he’s into that then maybe he’ll cry less in that environment

I have a two year old girl and with our first aupair. She's been with us for about 3 months. It took her about 1 month for her to stop crying when I leave the house but she has fully adapted to being w our aupair now. We did everything together as 3 for the first month, park, library, grocery shopping etc so that my kid could get familiar w aupair.
If you think it's a personality thing, maybe give it a few more weeks for both parties to acclimate. Our aupair is really warm w out toddler but we still have awkward conversations and I think largely bc of the language barrier.
Hang in there!!!!

Hi I’m also a host mom. Our au pairs been with us since January. We actually have the opposite problem. My daughter is obsessed with her and tries to go in her room on her off time so we had to put locks on her door😂 It def seems like your Au Pair is not putting in enough effort to bond. It’s not that hard to win a 2 year old with a little time. Do give it some time tho. The first month with our AU pair, we went a ton of places together and the AU pair would assist me.
We have structured days (not everyday) where we request certain things to be done during the day- like singing ABCs, colors, shapes, paint, play dough time, outside etc. maybe give your Au Pair a list of activities they can do.
