My husband is soo toxic and it’s so annoyingly confusing. He’s loyal, a provider, hard working, committed to his family (me and the kids) but on the flip side this man has never paid me a compliment he finds it soo hard to say something nice to me… (he says he’s a doer not a lover boy sweet talker) but that’s not what I’m asking for I just think it’s normal to at least say well done, I’m proud of you, here give me a hug, you look nice today, you’re so good at…. Anything!!! But no just can not bring himself to do it. But to critic oh he can go on and on on things I haven’t quite done right.. always takes an opportunity to give feedback or criticism but never a word of encouragement.
I’ve tried talking to him but I realise this is just who he really is. At the start I never noticed this he was so lovely to me made me feel beautiful and seen and desired now I honestly question if he even likes me… when I ask him do you even like me he just laughs in my face and calls me dramatic.
To him the fact that he is loyal and committed to the family should tell me all that I need to know but I don’t know I just find it so weird how you can love someone and not uplift them.
Has anyone experienced this?! And please I don’t want any of the ‘no I can’t relate my husband is amazing’ comments. I’m soo happy for you but I just want to hear from those who relate of have experienced this in the past.

My husband used to do compliments but few yrs into marriage it kinda stopped.
Everyone in a while I encourage him whenever I can an he will do the same.
The only thing he does criticism is for dinner which I do admit I'm not a chef an I tell him if u have anything criticize over then you do it an he is silent after that

Perhaps your husband wasn’t praised a lot/shown affection when he was growing up? If he grew up with a strict family. Being criticized and not praised is his normal.
Maybe he is confusing the role he plays which is a provider for the family (loyal, reliable, and committed) with the emotional vulnerability that’s needed in a relationship. Has he tried therapy or does he have any friends he can discuss this with?

I’m going thru the EXACT same thing. He’s the best but often calls me lazy, fat (I’m 2 weeks postpartum) a crybaby and only seems to be affectionate if he wants something sexually (he’s in jail but I pay for us the FaceTime and the minute I stop putting money, suddenly I’ve “never done anything for him). I actually told him 2 days ago that I don’t want him in me and his child’s life and then he began questioning if it’s even his son or not. I miss him but have recently been asking myself “what is there to miss?”

So my husband is a straight up asshole except he does compliment me. Always has
If I had money and a place to flee, I would have left long ago personally
I really don’t want to stay anymore but I have no options
I even have extended family making comments about him and his behaviors and remarks etc
