I am mortified. My son is 6 (non verbal) and normally sweet spirited however lately he has been violent. Took him to harvesters and couldnt stay for even 5 minutes, he threw the biggest tantrum screaming and kicking, bit my mother on the arm and tried to headbutt me, we had to leave. What support can i get for this kind of behaviour? We have a camhs referral for melatonin to help him sleep but other than that no additional support. He goes to a fantastic school with ARP in place, they are great with him however since he has started being violent all they do is call me and say “he’s not himself” but this IS himself now, this violent streak and just plain bully mean behaviour has been going on for months. He isn’t like this with my partner because he can see i’m the weaker parent. What support can i request?Talking to GP on Monday

Could his behaviour actually be a form of communication such as anxiety? Do you do visuals ie picture of harvester with who is there and then meal and then home. Could he have been overstimulated by the noise? Does he have headphones? How is he normally in restaurants? Some things can be quite small like my son is scared of dogs or people drinking fizzy drinks near him and you might not even think it could be a trigger.

Hello, I’m sorry to hear that your family is going through this! ❤️ My son is 5 with level 3 autism, he isn’t aggressive but he can get overly active. He takes Guanfacine 1mg which usually helps keep him calm and more focused. He also take’s Leucovorin 15mg 2x which is a vitamin. I would say talk with your son’s pediatrician to see if you can get referrals for a neurologist & psychiatrist to see what might help him.
