As soon as I entered my second trimester, I started resenting my dog. She was only two months old when I unexpectedly got pregnant, and suddenly everything about her got on my nerves. Her smell, the way she followed me everywhere, the leash pulling, just everything.
I thought it was pregnancy hormones and that the feelings would go away after I gave birth, but they've actually gotten stronger postpartum.
The part that makes me feel guilty is that she's genuinely a good dog. She's sweet, friendly, and well-trained, so I don't understand why I feel this way.
Has anyone else experienced this? Did it eventually get better?
I've never really been a dog person. I got her because I wanted my future kids to grow up with a dog and have that special bond. Now I'm wondering if that's part of why I'm struggling.

Pet aversion is super common during pregnancy & postpartum!
It doesn’t stick around forever!!! Just takes time for the hormones to level back out
Im a dog trainer & a service dog handler & I too disliked my dog for several months postpartum when I never thought I ever would feel that way

Feel this way towards my husband’s dog, he also does dumb shit that adds to me disliking him and the dog food smells so bad to me. I try to tolerate him but every day is the same or worse, I hope it goes away soon.

Hope so. It surprised me how much I can hate. Never experienced this much irritation on an living thing in my whole life...
