Gunky eye - blocked tear duct

Hi all - my baby is now 4wks 5days old and since she was born gets a gunky right eye, they told me it was due to a blocked tear duct and will go eventually. We clean it with boiled water/ cotton wool but wondered if anyone else’s baby gets this and what may have helped?

Hi! My baby had this and I was advised to put breast milk on his eye. It did clear up after that. I had also tried water with a pinch of salt as advised by another midwife but it didn’t help. Breast milk was the way forward!

I did boiled and cooled water and it cleared, have been told by health visitor to use breast milk too if comes back x

Ask the GP to swab it to rule out infection x

I have the same issue with my baby girl! She is 4 weeks old and we’ve been told to use breast milk. It’s getting better but we was told if it doesn’t clear up to go to the GP xx

Baby has had this since birth too, breast milk helped briefly but its come back. GP said its v normal at this age, to not worry if the eye itself wasn't inflamed and to gently massage eyeduct upwards w clean finger or q-tip, so the opposite way you'd normally wipe away a tear. Shes still gunky 5 weeks in 🤷‍♀️

Just to add my LO has had it and as it wasn't clearing up they swabbed to check it was tearduct and it did actually grow something, best to see GP to rule it out
My 1st borns cleared up within 2 days with breast milk but this one's hasn't and even with antibiotics he's still got stuff coming out

My baby's just got over a gunky eye but she was a prem and was told it's normal for prem babies to lickly get "gunky eye" it lasted afew days we did also get given antibiotics just incase it was an infection while waiting on swab results to come back keep cleaning it and should clear up

My first born had it really bad, we was cleaning it nearly day. We just used baby eye wash which is sterile water and a cotton pad. It eventually just went on its own. I read it's just the tear ducts maturing and it's part of the process.

We had this!! It cleared up with sterile water and breast milk! But then returned after going away, so the Gp gave us antibiotic ointment which cleared it up for good!

Transverse - being admitted!

Came into triage this morning after calling last night about itchy feet for a blood test. I told my husband to stay home with our 2.5 year old as I would be in and out. Mentioned being transverse at 37 weeks still and the midwives were shocked there was no plan other than my section at 39+2 weeks.

Doctor came, did a scan, still transverse. Have now been told I need to be admitted for bed rest and can’t go home until delivery now! Possibilty they will move my section earlier.

I’ve had a cry, wasn’t prepared for this today. My mom is going to mine now to finish packing my bag, with a tonne of extra things now, and to look after our son so my husband can come.

Feeling totally unprepared for this!

2nd section

My first I had a planned section it was great. My 2nd planned section is next week.

Question - did anyone go earlier 2nd time round? Was it a scary experience?

I’m worried go early. I’ve been told I would still get my section but treated as emergency section but I’m just really worried and anxious about that happening.

7 week scan

Hi,
Has anybody had a 7 week scan for reassurance and did you hear a heart beat / would you recommend it? I don’t feel like I can wait another 3 weeks until my first midwife appointment!
