Losing my mind here…can’t seem to get my toddler to start using the potty!!

So, I’ve been trying since March and initially she went a few times with a LOT of effort from me but then she refused to do a number 2…she kept holding it in until she became constipated. Anyway, she ended up getting quite ill so I stopped potty training her altogether, now I’m desperately trying again because she’s turning 3 and will be attending nursery in Sep. The nursery has said she should be potty trained so I’m panicking…I’ve started potty training her again but the same thing is happening!! She holds both pee & poo in and has now become constipated again!! She’s just so scared of doing anything in the toilet…God, what do I do? I feel like I’ve tried everything, being calm, distracting her, playing with her etc. taking her every half hour, sometimes even 10 mins. Nothing seems to be working! Any advice? 😭

Have you tried playing a potty song video and using rewards like gummies? I will say that your daughter can probably feel your anxiety over it, so that might make things worse. We didn’t get our daughter started until 3 yrs old and it worked out fine

Have you tried a potty or just the toilet? Have you tried a reward chart, maybe pick a few rewards together she can look forward to.
Mine didn’t want to use the toilet at all at first, she’s 4 and only recently started preferring the toilet, but still uses the potty 50% of the time.
Has nursery tried to help, ours have been great with both of mine, have started helping training my almost 2 yr old too.

My advice (and every child is different, so take what you like and leave the rest) - toileting is built into the routine. When she wakes up, say “it’s time to go potty”. Build in skills of pulling her own pants down and have a step stool so she can go up by herself. She should sit, every time. Even if she says she doesn’t want to or doesn’t have to. My son’s toddler teacher advised that “as long as the child isn’t crying, it’s okay to keep going” - so even when my son is resisting going potty, by the time we get his clothes off, he is ready to go ahead. Before this stage, I would just keep having him sit down on the toilet (the little bjorn one) until he went potty. Every 90 minutes I think should be a good starting point and then increase frequency if she is constantly filling her underwear in between. Oh! Make sure she’s in underwear all day except naps. We are still in the process with my son (almost 2.5) and he knows the mechanics, but he doesn’t want to sometimes. Keep going!

I bribed my toddler 😂 when he would go pee, he got an m&m. When he would poop, he would get a bigger piece of candy like a gummy worm or a tootsie roll or piece of chocolate.
My SIL gave my niece a cookie when she did.

If your toddler like Ms. Rachel at all, she has an episode on potty training that makes it fun.

Tbh I bribed my daughter with smarties for a wee and a lollipop for a poo. Over time I stopped for the wees. Still having issues with poos but taking it one day at a time.

Try pull ups and baby can always pull them down when she goes for a wee?

Also the Miss Rachel video was very helpful

Neurodivergent toddler

Hi ladies

My son is 2.5 and although not diagnosed, we have no doubt that he will receive an autistic diagnosis at some stage in his early years.

I’m after advice on how to get him to eat please🥲 the photo is of the things he eats but recently we’ve been struggling to get him to have that. I mentioned getting him something to eat for lunch and he screamed, throwing his toys around the room.

Honestly, yesterday all day he ate 5 biscuits and a packet of mini rice cakes and that’s it.
We still give him his prescribed formula just so he’s getting some nutrients.
The health visitor who we saw a couple weeks ago doesn’t seem worried, said to drop my son’s morning bottle - easier said than done right?
We have a meeting with the allergy team for a cows milk protein allergy, we’ve been told they work along side dietitians but I’m not feeling hopeful.
I’m in tears almost daily because I’m worried about him not eating much.

Children and screens 🤯

My 3yo is strictly a TV kid, he hasn't ever used a tablet or ipad, phone etc.

We let him have TV but only certain programs, however we don't restrict when he has access to it unless it's mealtimes or near bedtime.

That being said, he actually has very little interest in the TV, only watches a program for 5 minutes, he'd rather play with his toys. He loves toys from TV shows, for example he has all the Paw Patrol figurines, but he's only actually watched a handful of episodes.

We were cuddling and I was showing him photos on my phone from a day out we had the other weekend, which then ended up us looking through all my photos. I let him hold the phone and scroll through them himself and when I tried to take it off him he had the biggest tantrum I've ever seen him have.

He then kept trying to snatch my phone off me which is so unlike him, its like he turned into a different child.

I'm hoping it's just because it was a new thing and not because it was a screen necessarily, but it's definitely made me feel better about my decision to limit his screentime overall. I've given him new things in the past that I've taken away and he's never reacted that way.

How does your child react to screens? I'm curious if you limit your children's screentime, do they act differently when they have access to it?

Fomo partners

My (birth mother and exclusively BF) year’s maternity leave is coming to an end and throughout it, my wife’s had fomo when I’ve had plans. For example, going to baby classes, meeting up for coffee, baby cinema, soft play dates. She said “I’m going to get pregnant so I can have a year off”. I think she thinks I’m living my best life and I’m having so much fun. It’s not been all bad but it has also been hard but I feel she doesn’t think it’s equally as hard as her year.

Just wondering if your partners have had similar mindsets and how you’ve coped with that?

Am I just overreacting

So I had my beautiful daughter two weeks ago, while pregnant my fiance seemed kinda excited not as much as i wished he would be but we would talk about what we thought she was gonna look like and all that fun stuff. Now after she’s born it seems he has little to no interest in spending time with her and I get she’s a newborn but I mean I just lay with her he doesn’t even do that. I grew up with a very present dad so I’m used to that and that could make me a little biased, but he comes home from work and hops on the game and on his days off he’s constantly on the game and I kinda feel I’m doing this without him, am I overreacting if not what do I do?

Worried as a sahm

The biggest worry I have about being a stay at home mom to 4 kids ages 1,5,8,9 and my husband being a truck driver over the road and not having much family support is what if something happens to me? What if the ambulance has to come and I have no one to get my kids? 😢
