Is is me or is there a complete lack of check ups on babies in the NHS?!

Little bit of a rant but to me it seems absolutely crazy that if nothing seems wrong with your baby, theres no check up till a year old? If you dont book appointments no one actually checks on your baby. Not even just a wellbeing check on them. As a first time mum just blows my mind.

Yess i went to the hospital a couple of weeks ago and they asked me her weight and I was like at 8 weeks this is what it was I would at least like a place that open where you dont have to call and book an appointment just some where where you can pop in and get your answers checked and baby weighed

I mean the whole postpartum care is just shocking. I had an emergency c section and was given absolutely no instructions from the hospital on how to care for the incision or anything when I was discharged, just "don't lift anything heavy"

It’s scary ! I can see how many babies must go under the radar !!

Absolutely agree!
Especially in the local community health centres. They weren't even tracking my babies weight correctly in her graph.

It didn’t used to be this way back when we were all babies! My mum said that you could go in places like Boots to weigh or at a clinic without needing to book an appointment. It seems to have gotten worse over the years 😩

And when you need an appointment because something is wrong... You are brushed off or can't get one. I had to track our son's height, weight, head circumference etc myself. Thankfully I taught him how to stand on our scale because I found weighing myself holding him wasn't accurate. I only went to a baby weigh clinic once and they were like "I think he's moving so we will have to estimate his weight" 🤦🏼‍♀️ they also had the scale set up right by a big window next to a busy path so it didn't sit right with me to have our son not clothed in the open like that

Is it area dependent? My local family hub hosts two drop in sessions a week to see the health visitor and have babies weighed and discuss any issues. And then a third drop in for breastfeeding people. No appointments necessary for any of them. Just tuned up and wait your turn.

It does seem like a long time but if you go and see the HV in the family hub regularly, it’s not so bad.

We see the health visitor 3/4 times in the first year and can call them whenever needed. I mean they were useless with my first but they seem to be better funded this time round.

Our local hub offers 2x “family drop in” sessions, health visitors are present for weigh ins and if u have any concerns. Also at the centre they do classes for FTM plus self weigh ins where u can just go and weigh the baby if needed!

However after 6-8 week check, can’t remember what it was. I didn’t see the health visitor until 9months for her 1 year check and then again when she was 2years 4 months!
My friend however has been the health visitor every 6 weeks for her child, as was noted she needed extra support

Chunky thigh baby mamas (&papa's)

My 4 week old LO has a juicy pair of thighs, any nappies or clothes around thighs are leaving a red imprint

Nappy size is not ready to size up yet as would be way too baggy, only just sized up to size 2 (using pampers as got loads on offer)

And tips or advice?have seen someone mentioned putting nappy cream / petroleum jelly on the thighs as barrier from rubbing

Sleeping past 5 am

Please help my little one is nearly 8 months old and it doesn’t matter what time she goes to bed she always wakes between 5 and 6 am and won’t go back to sleep till between 9 and 10

Edit: she goes to bed between 8 and 10 we do a dinner at 5 and a bottle at half 7. Naps wise I’m lucky if she will nap for more than half hour at a time and if she does 3 naps I’m lucky most of the time it’s just 2 naps a day

Baby not feeding

I have a 4 almost 5 month old and recently he’s been so off his bottles sometimes going 5 hours between feeds and still not finishing them. Yesterday he had a feed at 2 and waited till 9 before he would have another then only had 3 ounce. He is normally up 2-3 times in the night but last night he woke once and again wouldn’t take a bottle, I’ve tried him again this morning and still nothing. Is this a normal developmental stage? I’m worried he will be dehydrated or not getting enough nutrients. He normally has 6 ounce every 3 hours and has always been such a good eater so this is not normal for him at all.

4 month sleep regression

How are we actually surviving and what do we even do?!! I’m at my wits end of a week of frequent wake ups, false starts, being dead asleep and then being put down and waking and starting the cycle all over again!! Since two weeks old she’s slept with only one wake up at 5am so I am DONE IN!! Do we just ride this out of what the hell do we actually do to solve this? It’s HELL

Breasfeeding vs pumping

Hi there!
Looking for opinions and experiences.
I had an emergency C, and my milk came in late, so we had to start with formula. Worked on it and my milk came, but baby is now used to bottle. Managed to make him latch a few times, but ut was painful and after a while he was getting a bit frustrated, i guess because of the flow. So i stuck with pumping.

Now here's my dilema :
Yes, i have to pump regularly every 2-3 hours. So not getting too much sleep. My husband insists it would have been loads easier if i would have kept trying to breastfeed, so i wouldn't get out of bed, having to get the milk ready all the time, and even he could get more sleep. So i think this is all one sided, as he would get more sleep, and i would get even less, as i thought breastfeeding would mean even less sleep because babies do lots of cluster feeding? As in i could end up feeding every 10 20 min compared to every 2-3h?

There's pros and cons for both exclusively breastfeeding and exclusively pumping (especially for the future on this as i will end up just giving the bottle to the baby and feed himself while i have a bit of time for myself - under supervision ofc)

Any takes on this? Anyone who switched from one to another? What do you think was easier?
