1 year imms

My daughter is due to have her 1 year jabs next week. I’ve seen loads of things on TikTok which are scaring me. Please tell me your experiences to make me feel better!!

Not got that far yet but remember getting the jabs now are a lot less scary/traumatic than your child contracting a serious disease that could have been prevented.

I was resistant and waiting till 14 months but I work in a school and there was a measles scare and it just seemed more important to me to have her covered than all the shit online, she’s doing great, 18months can count to ten independently walking and talking almost full sentences at this point, don’t let it put you off, their safety is priority always. It’s a lot easier to manage god forbid they ever did get seriously ill x

There may be a few tears but use lots of distraction, try not to be anxious, worried or nervous yourself as they will feed of how you're acting and behave the same way, be really excited for them, "yay they are going to keep you safe and healthy" "it's going to hurt a little but you'll be so much stronger" communicate what is happening even if you don't think they understand and then make a really big fuss about how amazing they are, it's really tough to see your child feel pain but it's really not too bad, distract them with a preferred snack or extra attention and they will forget it even happened. I haven't heard anything or experienced it myself of them becoming ill after, they say to give paracetamol just incase their temps going a little higher x

My daughter is 2 now. But when she had her 1yr vaccinations, she a bit off colour. More clingy than usual for a few days and had a slight temperature, but nothing that couldn't be handled at home.

She did cry when she had them done. Tbh she cried more at her 1yr vaccines than any of her others, and I think its because they are more aware of pain as they get older. However as soon as she was in the car she fell asleep and everything was forgotten about

You’ve got to think about it like this, if you had a good experience would you feel the need to get support from other people online 🤷🏼‍♀️ most likely not! If you had a bad experience, which isn’t very likely statistically, you are going to want to see if others can relate or support you! When people say things like I just want to make others aware, or warn people etc, it’s because it’s a trend they see so they copy it! Vaccines have been one of the most incredible scientific discoveries for medicine and a few seconds of discomfort and an evening of a high temp and disrupted sleep is a lot better than watching them suffer from measles, mumps or rubella (I’ve had the last one and gosh I was ill, so I can’t imagine what would of happened if I wasn’t jabbed). Your anxiety is so valid, but you need to tell it do one as your knowledge is more powerful 💙 Ya doing amazing mum☺️

Is is me or is there a complete lack of check ups on babies in the NHS?!

Little bit of a rant but to me it seems absolutely crazy that if nothing seems wrong with your baby, theres no check up till a year old? If you dont book appointments no one actually checks on your baby. Not even just a wellbeing check on them. As a first time mum just blows my mind.

I just don't think im meant for motherhood.
I had my first child when I was 23, Mentally ill and undiagnosed. And I really struggled. But I had a village so it wasn't so bad. Me and his Dad split before he was 1 but he still helped me so much and we co raised him till a few years ago. Our son now lives with him the majority of the time.
Since then I've been diagnosed and worked on my self. I can control my mental illness a good majority of the time.
I thought I could handle having a baby. And after lots of loss we had our baby last year. And I've managed really well till the last few days. His whinging, crying and screaming has been relentless. And I do manage about 6/7 hours before I feel so overwhelmed I could cry. By the time Dad's home from work I'm ready to just go to sleep.. I just feel like I'm doing a really bad job and I don't have a Villiage this time either. And I don't know the point of this post I just needed to vent ❤️

Would you be okay with a 3.5yo going 6hrs without a nappy change? (Assuming no 💩)

Considering how to manage it when she starts school, they’re fine for me to come in and change her midday and will contact me if she needs a 💩 change, but I’m worried that leaving her twice a day will just upset her more because she might think I’ve come to take her home! And driving back and forth to school 3x a day will be a lot for me. I usually aim for a change every 4hrs but she’ll easily go much longer without a change on a normal day if we’re out and about and never been bothered about it or caused an issue, but I don’t know if the teachers would judge me if I suggested not coming in to change her midday. Is 6 hours bad? It probably won’t even be wet by midday tbh!

(Pls don’t vote if you only have a young baby who needs changing super regularly! She doesn’t wee every 5 minutes like a baby 🙈)

Back to work

I am returning back to work in September. My baby girl will be nearly 8 months old.
I am breast feeding aswell as pumping. Work have said they will support me with the breast feeding as if i take bottles of breast milk in they have to be used up within 4-6hrs.
How did others get on with this transition

Co sleeping

This morning I coslept with my baby. I wanted a bit more sleep as she woke up at 5 and she wouldn’t let me put her down. I moved the duvet out of the way and moved all of the pillows except one for my head which was well away from her head(I put it vertical under me rather than horizontal) I slept in the c curl with my arm above her head straight and both my knees curled up under her. Did I do anything wrong? Also? Is there any tips to maybe get her to sleep better in her Moses basket in the morning as I don’t want to have to rely on this every morning.

Head bumps at nursery — how worried should I be?

My son is 9 months old and has been at nursery for just 2 weeks. Today I was told that he bumped his head again — this is the second time in the exact same spot since he started nursery.

He isn't crawling yet, but he's trying to crawl and is becoming much more mobile. From what I understand, he may have been sitting on a cushion and rolled off, although I'm not completely sure exactly how it happened. The nursery has a mix of carpeted and wooden flooring.
His carer said they applied an ice pack and that he seems completely fine now, but I'm feeling quite concerned and upset, especially as this has happened twice in such a short period of time.
really appreciate hearing from other parents — how common is it for babies this age to bump their heads at nursery/daycare? And what would you expect the nursery to do to prevent it from happening again?
