My stepdaughter (who is old enough to know better) just said to me ‘your tummy must really hurt because it is HUGE’

She then went on to say ‘it was big when you were pregnant and it is still so big now’.

I didn’t really react much. I just said ‘it’s not kind to make comments like that about somebody’s tummy, it will upset them’.

Just to add, I have been a permanent fixture in her life since she was 18 months old and we have a loving and positive relationship and am also friends with her mum (who split from my partner amicably and also remains friends with him)
So it is not like she has been poisoned against me and feels like she needs to defend her mum or anything.

I am really hurt by this. My confidence is already so low.

Kids can be brutally honest without realising how hurtful their words can be. I think you handled it really well by calmly explaining why those comments aren't kind instead of reacting angrily. She'll hopefully remember that lesson. Try not to let one thoughtless comment define how you see yourself—your body has been through pregnancy and deserves kindness, from others and from you too. ❤️

I once had a family friends kid say to me “you look different today than last time” I said “oh do I? I don’t have any make up on maybe that’s why” he said “yeaaah, you just look uglier, you should do what you did last time”🤣 it hurts for sure, but she probably didn’t really understand she hurting your feelings. When you say “old enough to know better”, how old is she? Because anything younger than a teen I think as hard as it is to hear, she probably just didn’t think before she spoke. I remember times I was like that as a child, the more I heard the reality of how it made people feel I assume is how I learned. Safe to say I got my kid karma though when that 7yo told me I look uglier than normal😖

You say old enough to know better. How old? Both my kids have made body related comments to myself and others. They have literally no filter and no idea that they said something hurtful. It’s a teachable moment when it happens. You handled it very well. I wouldn’t assume any ill intent. In my experience, even older kids 8,9+ can say hurtful things and still need some coaching.

Kids can truly be cruel . Try and brush it off . I know it can be hard 💗 Sometimes they know something will hurt and she wanted a negative reaction perhaps but you staying calm showed her she didn’t get that reaction . I doubt she would try it again. Don’t let it get to you . I’ve had cousins ask me what the weird red dots and freckles were all over my face ( my spots ). And my neighbour jiggle my arm fat and say “ wiggle wiggle “ 😅😭 I usually remain neutral or just ask if they would like someone to do it to them . They usually don’t bother again .

Honey kids are vicious with their words. I was breastfeeding during dinner. My first daughter said. Mummy your breasts are so big. I am a 34b. Then she turns to her dad and said dad you breasts are huge🤭🤪😆😆😆😆. They aren’t at all😂😂😂😂😂

What happened to my sweet boy

My baby was the best sleeper since 2 months old. 7:30pm- 6:30am every night without waking. Weaving started out great too - happy to try everything but now at almost 8months he’s a different child. Refuses any and all foods - even ones he loved, and his sleep is a mess. Goes down at 7:30 but sometimes wakes up after 30 minutes and won’t go back down until 10, wakes up panicking a throughout the night and can’t seem to settle for the rest of the tonight and is awake from 5am. I don’t know what’s happened to make these changes but I want my old baby back 😭 what can I do to settle his nights and get him to enjoy weaning again? I’m beyond exhausted and at my whits end at this point.

Mental abuse for a parent

I'm in my 40s and pregnant, for the first time. At the moment, I have nowhere to go so I moved in with my Dad. He has told me to get rid of the baby, told me I'm a whore because even though I'm separated from my legal husband, I'm pregnant with someone else's kid. Constantly tells me he doesn't care if I eat or if I'm sick and to keep it to myself. Etc..... so I have been trying to not bother him and do my own thing but he still says horrible things and puts me down all the time. He says I'm like my Mom and how horrible she is. It's constant verbal abuse. I'm trying so hard to not let it stress me out but how can I fix this or not let it effect my baby or myself anymore? I'm on the waiting list for section 8 but I'm also disabled and can't work ATM. I have tried talking it out with him but the more I beg him or ask him what is the problem? I get worse back. What would you do?

Is this carrier any good?

I struggle with back pain and would prefer weight to be more distributed to my waist and hips than my back.

Confused mummy

My baby will be 18months old in a few days, and she is still nursing(breastfeeeding). My plan is to stop nursing her at 20months. My husband wants her to start nursery in a month’s time but i have mixed feelings about it as i work from home with one day away from home.
She has never had bottled milk but she uses sippy cups or a normal cup quite well to drink her water.
Please advise on how to go about weaning her and the nursery bit ( is it a good idea or it it too early for her?)
Thanks
