I returned to work mid June and recently had a month review with my manager and HR. It was a positive meeting and no issues. But I’ve now read my letter following this and I’m really frustrated by a comment that’s been made. The day after this I was 5mins late in and admittedly I tend to be most days. But this is no fault of my own. I’m waking up at 5am to ensure I’m ready and sorted before the rest of the house, leaving at the right time to get my baby to nursery then onto work. Traffic is awful on the way no matter what time in the morning and I then have to park my car 15min walk from work. Anyone with a baby knows just how difficult getting out the door is even with bags packed the night before! Our nursery only has a few parking spaces so sometimes I have to wait for someone to leave. My baby still finds drop offs hard. I’m trying my absolute best to juggle all of this and be fully committed to my job, it’s absolutely exhausting. I’ve explained to work all of this (before the late comment was made) and I feel like I’m being shown no understanding. I’d get ticking off someone for being late if they haven’t got a valid reason but I have a baby! Honestly makes me question why am I doing this and why are parents treated so differently to any other employee

Sorry Hun, you can't have it both ways. Either you think parents should be treated the same as other employees or not!
Being late, no matter the reason, is not seen favourably by an employer. You can have a discussion to alter your start time if that's appropriate for the business, but they don't have to accept it.

Unfortunately businesses are businesses and they won’t look at you being a parent as an exception to allow you to be late. If you’re late 5 mins every day, that works out to nearly 20 hours a year. If every parent did that, it’s a lot of money in wages they’re losing.
I know from my friends who are already back, it’s bloody hard trying to do it all, but I think you just have to take this one on the chin and as long as it’s not turning into something more serious at work, just keep trying your best to get there on time but accept they’re keeping tabs and as Charley said, maybe you can ask for a slightly later start / finish if things are escalating and you really can’t get there earlier.
