Can’t wee after C-Secion

I had exactly the same!! It just takes a minute for your body to start doing it again don’t stress lovely. I was so frustrated desperately trying to wee and nothing happening. They put the catheter back in and I did about her day with it. I was forging and forcing but nothing was happening. Please don’t stress this is absolutely normal

I had this happen to me with my first. It was day 2 post op before I was able to go by myself. Sometimes you just need a bit of extra time. Take a few big deep breaths and try not to fixate on it (easier said than done I know). You’ve got this!

This is normal. Even after I went, I couldn’t go again. I remembered a nurse from my first telling me smelling peppermint oil helped you pee. So I tried it again this time, sure enough. Immediately went.
So I left a little cup with some in the bathroom and closed the door, smelled like Santa’s workshop when i went in, but I went no problems the rest of the time. Brought some home just in case.
Such an uncomfortable feeling, i just really wanted to avoid another cath (and my 2nd born I got a uti from leaving it in too long, so really tried to avoid that this time)

It’s quite common for some people to have difficulty to urine post op.
This could be down to the epidural/spinal due to the nerves being numbed.
Something called bladder stunning, when the bladder is over stretched for a short period of time which makes it sluggish
Swelling and inflammation tissue around the bladder or urethra can become swollen after surgery
Pain from the incision site can make it hard to relax the pelvic floor muscle
Some strong pain killers
And finally fear or anxiety worrying about it can make it harder to pass urine

Easier said than done, I know but try and relax, not over think about needing to pass urine and run the water tap when your trying to go sometimes the sound of running water helps.

Have they done a bladder scan on you to see how full your bladder is?

That was the case for me as well. Don't stress out too much!

Thank you everyone! They’ve given me another catheter for 24hours, so hopefully I’ll be okay after this. I didn’t realise it was a common thing and started spiralling a bit in panic because of the pain of the full bladder 🙈
