Ex. I made chiptole at home, literally every side dish you can think of to put in your burrito. He literally ate 90% of the meat, lettuce and cheese - that’s it. Opens up chips that I would bring over, rips the sides off. Today I found out he opened up literally 5 packs of pancakes just to take 1-2 out of each(their 3 packs) instead of finishing up the pack from before.

Did you ask why he did that? Were they different flavored pancakes?

I think it’s important to have the conversation with your partner about expectations and boundaries. Are you and he comfortable “reprimanding”your step son? 13 is definitely old enough for some adult conversation, being considerate of your family and others, cleaning up after yourself, life skills he would need in the future. He sounds like a fairly typical teen in the fact that they just don’t cognitively put those pieces together the way we do as adults.

I personally would just ask the 13 year old questions
like
“so why did we open multiple packs of pancakes and only eat 1-2 of them each instead of eating just one whole pack?”
“Who taught you to open a bag of chips from the side??? Can you grab me a ziplock I can transfer the uneaten chips into so they don’t go stale”
With like the meat and cheese thing if it was that he only left 10% of those items I’d just say something like “hey do you know if anybody else wanted meat or cheese before you eat all of what’s out here”

I think it's a lack of parenting that no one teaches him how to eat food properly. Does your husband do that too? Did he teach him ?
