Fussy 4 week old baby

I was wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks for a "witching hour" and potentially reflux. It's like a switch has gone off in our baby and he's become unsettled and crying for no reason. I'm unsure if it's reflux as he only occasionally coughs while feeding and spits up small amounts during/after feeding. He does like to try and scramble up you while sat up after feedings and seems uncomfy on his front until you have him inclined on his back but then again will change his mind 😓 just want to know what I'm doing wrong.

I'm sure you're not doing anything wrong. I've got a 3 week old and I'm waiting for these days as I remember them very clearly with my 1st! They are awful, uncontrollable crying even though you have tried everything... Feeding, winding, changing nappy, cuddles, made sure they aren't too hot / cold... Everything! Thinking back, movement helped my little one, I used to pace the house with them, if nice, take them outside to reset. Sometimes we went for an evening walk. The rugby hold seemed to settle him a bit too. How are you feeding? Mine was on bottles and I ended up using the Dr Brown bottles which seemed the best for him regarding colic / reflux. Hang in there, it doesn't last forever xx

You're not doing anything wrong. The fact that this has a name, "witching hour" means it's a phenomenon that exists for enough people without a reason or cause.

How would you deal with this? Horrible comments about my child :(

I was at a softplay today and with my children including my nearly 2 year old (a girl) wearing pink sparkly girls clothes and pink shoes... well an older lady said aww I think "He" wants to play with his sister and I said yes "She" probaboy does i'm just taking her shoes off and no I wasnt abrupt or anything... and i looked at my daughter and smiled and said come on Elsie... to which she loudly says to the person she is with in a horrible way oh my god its a girl can you believe that its a girl, it looks like a boy and not even a cute boy and honestly I am so heartbroken like why are people so horrible? And to a child, I just could never and I hate to say it but it is not the first time I have had something like this :(

Im also worried because her hair has stopped growing and we found out it could be her condition and medication causing it too so now im worried for her as people obviosly are not always kind

PPD

How are we handling our depression. Today is a bad day. I don’t want to be here anymore. I have no friends. No one understands what I’m going through. When does this end.

🌙 Navigating the Witching Hour With an 8‑Week‑Old

Anyone else’s little one suddenly wide awake for what feels like forever in the late afternoon and early evening?

My little girl is 8 weeks old, and her wake windows from around 3pm can stretch to four or five hours! My health visitor has confirmed what I already knew (that’s far too long for her age) but she also said it’s incredibly common because it falls right into the witching‑hour window.

We’ve tried everything people usually recommend. Gone down google rabbit holes, advice from our HV, tips from other parents… and still no luck. She just powers through, sometimes grizzly and sometimes bright eyed but determined not to nap.

The last few days she’s been fairly consistent with settling somewhere between 8pm and 9pm, which is amazing but I’m stuck on how to help her nap before that. Ideally, I’d love her to get even a short nap between that 3pm mark and bedtime so she’s not overtired and wired.
Has anyone lived through the exact same phase and dealt with super long wake windows at this age, especially during the witching hour?
Did anything help your little one nap in that tricky late afternoon stretch?
I’ll take it all, routines, tricks, patterns, anything!
