I am 2 months postpartum (10 weeks) and I return to work tomorrow. My daughter is the sweetest baby girl, she is so easy to care for, breastfeeding has been a breeze, she barely cries, sleeps well, and smiles and giggles soooo much! I love spending time with her throughout the day but being a SAHM isn’t in the cards for me/realistic. Before her, I loved my career in ABA working with children on the spectrum. I’m a year away from finishing my program working towards my BCBA. It was my passion, and I loved it. I was great at it. But the idea of leaving my daughter brings me to so many tears and emotionally I cannot handle it. Prior to starting work I went places alone for a few hours (appointments; hair, nails, etc…) and I legit was itching to get back home to her. I have a lot of mom guilt about being away and missing things with her. I’m crying typing this just thinking about it. I know I have to go back to provide her a better life but I just wanted to know I’m not alone in that, and if resenting work/my career is normal in this stage.

I am lucky and work from home but I strongly sympathize with this. I feel for you and all the other moms out there. My hot take is that mothers of young children shouldn’t work 🤷♀️ lol. I think in almost all cases the best place for mom and baby to be are together for minimum first 3 years of life. Our society isn’t set up to run this way & we’re all the worse for it, but that’s my controversial opinion. I just wanted to affirm you are not crazy for having this shift in mindset.

You are not alone. My baby is 4 months. I was off for 2 months and worked part time for 2 months so far. I am the kind of person who needs to work for my sanity. This is my first child and I wanted to slowly gain hours at work, that way my baby could slowly get used to being away from me longer. We have only made if 6 hours so far. I want to get back to full time by September. I am fighting work to give me more then 3-4 hour shifts. By now I wanted to be up to 5-6 hour shifts. In August I want to get up to 8 hours. But I feel like I am fighting work to give me more hours. It just hit me the other day that, "I am fighting to be away from my baby. Why am I doing this. Why wouldn't I want to be with my first born child as much as possible." After this hit me, I haven't faught, I just am letting life flow.

I was a mess before going back to work after my first. I felt the same way.. i was able to go back part-time, which was helpful. The best part about going back that I didn’t expect though was how much better I feel. Getting ready for the day, leaving the house with a purpose, doing the job I enjoy we’re all so good for my mentality. The hardest part was the 12 hour shifts, but that didn’t get too hard until she started sleeping all night and I didn’t see her at all on days I worked.
After my second, I didn’t have such a hard time going back because I knew I would feel better.

I thought I was the only one who felt this way!! My daughter just turned 4 months. She's the cutest little button and I cannot stay away from her too long. I'll have separation anxiety. I was supposed to return to work after my six weeks (May 15th) but I extended it, and is supposed to return back to work on the 17th of this month. Im literally freaking out! I might extend it longer but I need money to support my family. Im a police officer and that alone freaks me out due to mandatory overtime. Idk I have a big decision to make. In only 2 weeks 😩

I hope you find a balance and everything works out for you and your little one!

It is The incredible blessing and yet one of the greatest curses... to live in a world where we need to in have to work... Even when we have babies. I have been trying my whole life to do find an established career that would allow me to work around being a mom.
They are days when they drive me crazy and my velcro child just won't leave me alone...
But they are days that I love how much my children want to hug me and be around me and be close to me and touch me.
It literally is one of the greatest things in my life to be a mom.
Like I think we're just meant to want to be near and need that closeness with our kids when they're little.
And as our kids get older and they don't need us as much... I think we still desire that closeness but it's easier because we see them turning into the people we had hoped they'd be.
Literally my kids pediatrician just became a new mom and she has worked full-time hours for like the first 3 months after her kid was born then she stepped down to being part-time.

I’m sorry you’re going through this everyone deserves a maternity leave that is longer than just two or three months, depends on the country you live in but it should be longer ideally, hang in there mama ♥️

America is like the only country with no maternity leave 😭❤️ what you are feeling is normal.
But.... you will adjust. You're still having a lot of bonding hormones. Those will settle down in the next month or two.

Thats because the u.s has absolutely horrible maternity leave. Most countries give 12 months or more. Your suppose to hate your career right now.

This is terrible, I suppose you are all living in USA. In Serbia we have 11 months fully paid maternity leave, I was sad to get back to work even after this time:(
