He is 2.5 years and I have to carry him everywhere to get anywhere since he doesn’t listen. If I put him on the ground and hold his hand he will either squirm out of it and run or throw himself on the ground and go limp. He doesn’t come or stay close when I call. He immediately bolts and expects me to follow him. I don’t believe in hitting or yelling. I do stern talk for danger and tried giving him one of two options. None of the other kids his age are this way. They listen to their parents and stay close. What do I do?

mine was the same at around 1.5-2 i believe it is age but i had to carry on with my boundaries. i’d put her down and give her options. i’d say you can hold mommy’s hand or you can sit in the pushchair. she would kick off she still does sometimes but the key is to not give in so they learn that if they cry they will get their way.

I put 'Its his temprament'.
My son is similar, we use a tether or reigns or he goes in a pram with his younger brother if he doesnt fancy listening x

Reins?

Ide definitely try a reins/backpack? Or alternatively if he won't walk could you put him in a pushchair?
