If you hung out with some new mom friends a couple of times, but they don’t make plans to actually hangout with you all summer, are they even worth the effort of trying to have a friendship & play dates?

I feel like summer is where you’re supposed to be making all the plans to have play dates because there’s so much more to do & these girls will say yeah let’s plan a play date, but never actually follow through. So now I’m wondering if they just don’t actually want to be friends. It just feels so rude to me and I’m wondering if I should just delete them off of social media.

Also, what’s up with other moms getting my phone number and then after I add them on social media I just won’t hear from them anymore it’s so weird

I make a point early on when talking with someone to ask their communication preferences. And initiate a get together soon. This does two things: clarifies the expectations of communication and their availability. Like a mom I talked with the entire time we were both at the library told me she only has one family car so she can only get together when her husband can drive. That clarifies travel restrictions. With other moms I clarify best way to communicate if they are okay with cold calls if I got a good moment while kids are busy or prefer texting.

This helps so much! All too often it’s easy to save someone’s number or social media and soon they get lost im my contacts. If I have a little more communication then I more readily remember them and knowing their expectations I can find more ways to bring them into my life. ❤️

I often have the intentions, but the I forget due to other things that come up in my life. I also am content being at home most of the time, so I struggle to initiate things like playdates. I'm trying to be better, but it's a process. Have you acted on your wonder by asking these people this question to see where they're coming from?

I think I’m just gonna accept it

There’s one thing I really hate about trying to make friends and it’s hearing that someone who doesn’t have any friends at all is a red flag and I’m so over that mindset. There’s so many different reasons someone could not have friends and some people really just mean they have no one to hang out with. I already struggle a lot with friendships due to my autism and just struggling with communication and understanding others. It seems like people are so judgmental of things that are just unfair and I’m probably just fighting a loosing battle

Advice - don't want MIL visit when baby is born

I’m in my third trimester and want to restrict visits from my mother-in-law after the baby is born. She’s largely uninvolved with our 2-year-old and hasn’t checked on me once during this pregnancy. When our first was born, they visited 5 days postpartum and it was unhelpful, I had to host them and felt uncomfortable breastfeeding around her and her husband.

My husband agrees she’s narcissistic, but he prefers not to 'rock the boat' since she only shows up every few months. It's tricky because his grandparents are great and involved, but restricting his mum while welcoming them will definitely cause friction.

How can I get him to understand where I'm coming from and help protect my peace after birth?

Missing sleep and feeling lonely!!

I've just found this group and whilst I'm sorry others are going through similar struggles it's also so nice to hear 😅 I don't know anyone in real life with a sleeper like mine so it feels incredibly lonely and like no-one understands!

My LO is almost 17 months and still breastfeeds 4 times a night. Won't settle any other way. I know I will but it feels like I'm never going to sleep again 😭

Feeling lonely

Long story short, I had a fall out with some friends a few years ago. I don't want to rekindle, as I'm not sure they would want to. I know it won't be the same, the trust won't be the same and they weren't the most perfect friends.

I basically have no one else, one friend we barely talk (only talk when we're trying to plan something). She only came to see baby when newborn, and it's been almost 8 months now. Every time we try to meet up, it doesn't end up happening (mosty on her part cancelling). So, I'm feeling kinda alone with no friends. I've got my partner and of course he's my friend, but it's different.

Anyway, just wanted to vent.
