Question

So I have a question but I’ll give you some background information first.
My SD just turn 3 in June. Since she was 8 months old she’s come to us every Wednesday night and stayed with us till Thursday evening. Recently her mother has text my partner about an hour before drop off saying “oh she wants to stay here tonight she doesn’t want to come” but then when it’s our weekend I’ve heard her say countless times when she gets dropped off on the Friday “sometimes we have to do things we don’t want to do”

Baring In mind she’s 3. Should her coming to her fathers be an option at that age?

My partner and I suspect it’s bio mum just being a little lazy on not wanting to drop her off. Specifically because every time my SD conveniently wants to stay home bio mum has asked my partner if hes at work. (my partner works 5 minutes from her house so she’s trying to get him to pick her up instead of her driving 15 minutes to us to drop her off ) and it never seems to happen on our weekends it only happens on Wednesday nights to Thursdays.

Personally I don’t think a choice like that should be put into a child’s hands till they’re at least 11/12 ish as a 3 year old could not want to go somewhere because they’re really enjoying playing with a toy or watching something. Where as an older child can say why they don’t want to.

My partner comes from a separated family and he was made to go to and from till he was an adult(give or take a year)

I also come from a separated family and I stopped seeing my father at 12 and explained to my mother why.

Circling back to my question being:

Should her coming to her fathers be an option at that age?

I’m not saying she should never be given an option but factoring in her age.

I just want some outsider perspective

I think there can be a lot of factors that can contribute to if she’s saying she doesn’t want to go:

Is her relationship with bio mum real close? Likes being with her?

Can dad just pick her up if it is bio mum not wanting to do drop offs?

How does SD seem when she’s with u? Is she sad at drop offs? If mum is just saying “sometimes we have to do things we don’t want to” for the sake of saying it and SD isn’t upset then it’s slightly manipulative.

Ultimately the decision is to do what’s best for the child and ensuring she’s happy!

Universal credit question

Hi mums!

I’m planning on going back to work part time so 20 hours due to childcare issues so can’t go full time. I am on universal credit & getting housing benefit from it too. Just wondering would me going part time affect my universal credit payments. Would it reduce ? Has any other mums gone part time that’s on universal credit. I’ve had some people tell me I’m better off not working & staying on UC as me being part time would be the same income as universal credit takes some off from it.

Money advice please!

I am currently 15 weeks pregnant and both me and my partner work full time. We have a house together and we split the bills 50/50. Due to a recent job change, he earns less than me and hasn’t been able to save anything since we moved house. When I am on maternity leave, my earnings will drop and it isn’t enough to cover the mortgage and bills for the house and his earnings won’t cover it either. I have some savings that I’ll have to use but it will mean that my years of sacrifice and saving up before we even met, will all be spent and the financial support will be provided by me only. I’m struggling to accept this and I don’t know if I’m being petty thinking about money this way when this is OUR child yet it’s all my savings to be able to support that child.

Abandoned

I grew up with a kinda distant mom and when I met my husband, his mom was such a warm "mommy" type of mom. She was a SAHM for her 3 kids and did all the mom things etc. She is from another country and over the years we have paid her rent back home and supported her as she didn't have a job and has lupus. When I was pregnant, she was so excited because it's her first grandchild. She said she wanted to live with us full time and help with the baby which was a dream come true for me. I did all her paperwork and got her her greencard and got her a job with my mom and got her health insurance etc. Long story short, I SET HER UP WITH A DREAM LIFE. I have always supported her emotionally and anything she needed, I would help her get. If she wanted to plan for her future or had a certain goal, I would create budgets for her or help her plan so she could reach her goals.

After i had the baby and our night nurse was done and we were really relying on her so I could go back to work, Little by little she became complacent and distant and would fight with my husband (which in her defense, he can be grumpy and roll his eyes and do that kind of super annoying semi disrespectful stuff). She would threaten to leave which was so stressful for me.

I would cry to her and explain that I was the breadwinner and I HAD TO work so that our mortgage could get paid and that we couldn't afford childcare and I showed her the numbers etc. I also tried to explain that she couldn't afford to live on her own here. (She has never lived on her own and really doesn't understand what is needed for her to do that or what I need to do to support our family and household. She would agree to stay and then it would start all over again a week or so later.

One day, I came home from work and she was gone, she had secretly found and rented a room and left (without any of her things and then made my husband pack her stuff and bring it to her)... I had 2 days to try and find childcare. I couldn't cover 2 of my evenings at work for the first week and I ended up getting fired because "I couldn't do my job without reliable childcare." Because I lost my job, I lost the HELOC i was just approved for so we could expand my son's tiny bedroom and create our forever home. My whole life has been completely upended and there is no getting it back.

She hasn't spoken to me in months. She keeps asking my husband to see my son and I just can't do it. I'm so deeply hurt. I can't do it.

Am I wrong here?
