Hi guys, my baby is just over 2 weeks and before we left the hospital when he was born he failed his hearing test in the left ear, right was fine so they booked us another appointment, the left ear failed again and since has failed one more test so we’ve been told he likely has permanent hearing loss in the left ear but they want us to come back again next week for the same test (this will be the 4th) and if they get the same results he’ll he referred to paediatrics.. has anyone else had any experience in this and was baby okay? Any stories or advice would be appreciated ❤️We are so worried and feel so bad for our little boy. It’s very unexpected as there’s no history of hearing loss in our families. I’m now worrying about everything 😩

To try and reassure, my sister is deaf in her left ear and has been since birth. She did take a bit longer to talk but she's 31 now and lives a perfectly normal life and was able to learn to drive etc. She does sometimes mishear things but will normally just walk on our left hand side so she can hear better. I know it's worrying but there is lots of support xx

just another reassurance. my nephew was born with just 1 ear drum so no hearing 1 side at all. it hasn't affected him at all. he has normal speech and development and wears bilateral hearing aids

My niece was the same. Has perfect hearing with aids sometimes when she was younger walking by a noisy road she would want to take the aids off but we all forget there is an issue as it doesn’t affect her like at all. Half the time she doesn’t wear the aids and can still hear ok, possibly lip reads a little more but sometimes I wish I had the ability to turn life down!
You will all be fine I’m sure.x.x.x.
