Grunting, straining, red faced… HELP

my little one is just over 3 weeks and honestly I think he spends every night from 3am onwards grunting, straining, stretching his legs out and passing wind until about 6am. The only way he will sleep is if he is on my tummy down as this seems to give him comfort but it’s hard for me to not fall asleep when this happens! We have taken him to the doctors and they said he’s just a baby basically🤷‍♀️ he poos fine, passes wind throughout the night all night, burps after every feed I just cannot work out why he does it! Please can I have some advice or at least someone who is in the same boat 😭😭

Heya lovely- 4 weeks old over here but got a 4 year old and remember this very well so didnt panic as much this time.
So obviously we need to burp babies otherwise they get trapped wind super easy and its because their digestive system is still immature. But over the next 3 weeks or so is when it starts maturing more, which causes cluster feeding and alot more gas in the meantime- newborns are active sleepers anyway so they grunt and strain and all sorts at this stage even with no trapped wind, but it increases over the next few weeks- temporarily i may add. I leave my little man to it in the moses overnight if hes making these noises, if they get excessive ill pick him up and burp him a little extra then plop him back down - so as frustrating as it is when a dr tells you 'its normal' it actually is on this occasion! Its just not something that's spoken about. People say about a newborn keeping you up all night but they dont specify that's not just from having to give a bottle or wipe their bum lol!

Hey, i am kinda going through this right now with my 3 week old minus the pooping part! He will grunt, strain and make these weird high pitched noises throughout the night like he is struggling to poop and its really worrying and stressing me out to the point where i am constantly googling everything. Im convinced he is constipated, has colic and silent reflux!! After the last couple of feeds last night/this morning he will be so grouchy and ill burp him and he will only settle on my tummy. When i out him down in his crib he will then start crying uncontrollably. I think he is struggling to poop as he didn't poop for 48 hours then did a massive blowout. The docs said its normal but I completely understand how you feel. I feel helpless as this doesn't seem 'normal' to me 😞

This is normal. My little one is now 6 weeks old and while it's starting to improve, he's done it also since 3 weeks old. I think their digestive system matures by like 3 months old when it should resolve (although from what I've read it can resolve sooner)🤞🤞

Totally normal, both my babies have done it. We're at 6 weeks now and it's definitely calmed down a lot!

My son was the same. He's 5 weeks 3 days now and it's stopped. I pop whatever top I've had on that day I'm his bed before he goes down. And when he wakes at 3 for milk I pace him. Burp him a little in-between each Oz. Then when he's done I change him and streach his lower half out and run his tummy in clockwise motions. But 4 he's asleep again enough to transfer xx

Reading the comments is so reassuring!!!
We’re currently going through the same with our 3 week old. We went to the GP and they prescribed lactulose but we’ve been hesitant to give it her just yet. She is breastfed and hasn’t pooped in 4 days now, however I heard this can be normal for a breastfed baby x

Milk supply

Please tell me your positive supply stories and things that actually helped. Currently 6 weeks PP. Seeing results with regular pumping (5 per 24 hours) and Domperidone but still a long way off full supply, hoping there’s still a chance to keep increasing output.

Best nappy creams?

Can anyone recommend a nappy cream for a really sore bum please? We’ve used sudocrem & weleda nappy cream so far but doesn’t seem to be getting any better :(

Inconsolable crying and calpol

My girl is two months on Wednesday and this evening she has cried intensely for about an hour straight bar a few minutes of sleep as she is clearly exhausted from crying so hard but quickly wakes back up as I assume she is in pain. She’s also arching her back and throwing her arms around which I’ve read is another sig. of pain.

She has reflux and takes liquid omeprazole. Is fine all day then in. The evening really unsettled then fine in the night. An improvement from about a week ago when she was crying nearly all day.

I’m wondering that in a 2+ month old if they are crying like that and it’s inconsolable/very hard to soothe would you give calpol under the assumption they are in pain? Or only leave the calpol for management of fever/give when a dr recommends?

Too much milk?

My baby is 3 weeks old and has had 42 ounces of milk in a 24 hour period she usually has around 30 which I thought was too much anyway. She always seems to be hungry... Has anyone else had this? Everywhere online says it is way too much.

My mom died yesterday

My wedding should have been today. But I postponed, because a week ago my mom had a stroke. It feels like my entire life imploded, I don't feel like I'm in my body. The grief is so unbearable I'm either needing to have the tv on as I do something else, or I'm just staring off. The pain is worse than anything I've ever felt, I truly cannot fathom life without her here. I'm beyond heartbroken.

I'm hoping some other people who've lost a parent can share some encouragement. Right now there's no light at the end of the tunnel.

Pediatrician said…

Hi ladies, I just came back from the pediatrician and she said something that I was a little confused about. She said that now that my baby is two months old it’s time to stop the contact naps. She said to try and wean him off of them because he’s going to have a more difficult time sleeping on his own if I don’t start to do this now…
I was under the impression that all the way till three months it’s not even something I would’ve had to think about… Till we start trying to do sleep training.

Has anyone else heard anything like this? Or the contrary?
