In laws against breastfeeding

It's always the bloody in laws but thank you to anyone willing to read this and offer some advice.

So things have been rocky with my in laws since I had my first baby back in 2021. I breastfed for around 3 months but had to stop due to multiple issues (thankfully the in laws were not a contributing factor in stopping). At 3 weeks old my MIL went crying to my husband asking for me to give him formula or pump milk so she could feed him and took the arses with me when I said no. At 6 weeks old she fell out with me because I wouldnt let her take my EBF son on holiday ... it carried on from there.

2025 when our middle child turned 1 things had got so bad that they wouldnt even say hello to me or respond if I asked them a question. So I cut ties and said they were no longer welcome in our house.

A few months ago I was feeling really bad about the kids not getting much time with them and my husband feeling like he was in the middle so I extended an olive branch and suggested we started over. Things went okay and they were talking to me again and we were able to do park trips and have them over for coffee.

Fast forward to today and I gave birth to our third child 9 weeks ago. She is EBF and the in laws now won't speak to me (other than the occasional how are you in front of my husband). So i quizzed my husband and explained they won't be able to visit if this continues. His response was to brush it off and say its just because me breastfeeding makes them feel uncomfortable. How would you ladies react?

I am furious because it's a very natural thing to do and I don't just sit with my boobs hanging out, i do it in a way nobody can really see much unless they come over and stared at me while I latched her. I can't help but feeling like there's more to it than this but shouldn't my husband be standing up for me and letting his parents know that in any case they shouldnt come into my house and not speak? Am I just over reacting?

I’m sorry this is happening to you. I don’t understand why anyone other than the mother of the baby should have a say in how the baby is fed. Maybe except the doctors. 🤷🏻‍♀️

You are definitely not overreacting & yes your husband should be standing up for you more. You are doing nothing wrong re. EBF your baby. Apologies if I missed this but have you tried asking your husband to talk to them alone about this?

Honestly... wow. You have more than one A-hole in this situation, and I bet you smell lovely.
What an absolute bunch of bells. You ha e every right to breastfeed your child no matter where or when, or for how long. Your body, your choice. If they want to be petty about it, that isnt on you. Your kids dont need that influence in their lives either.

You’re not overreacting. I find it wild that anyone thinks they have a right to an opinion about how you feed your child, and it’s not cool that your husband isn’t standing up for you. I can understand how he feels in the middle of it all, but he just needs to stand up and say something to his parents. They are his parents - not yours! They should be happy they have grandkids and should do whatever it takes to see them. And I don’t know that the issue is solely that you breastfeed. It seems like they want to be able to take care of the babies too. They aren’t expressing themselves well at all.

It sounds to me like they’re not happy with you breast feeding because they want to feed your babies and can’t… it’s out of order! Nobody but you needs to feed your babies, there’s absolutely no reason as to why they should be able to do it and it certainly shouldn’t be your reason to feel uncomfortable in your own home.

It’s really sad that they don’t want you to be doing something that’s great for “their grandchildren” too. A fed baby is a happy baby don’t get me wrong, (this is no slander to formula!) but the fact that you’re willing and able to breast feed and give your babies such a great start in life is brilliant! They should be proud of you for that.

Your husband fight your corner more, he should want what’s best for your babies too and he’s seen first hand how great breastfeeding is for them and for you! I wonder if he needs reminding of the health benefits of it for you and them, IE lower breast cancer risk etc and then maybe it’s on him to remind his parents of that.

I think yes he could stand up to you. But his parents sound stubborn so him saying anything I don’t think will help. And for him to keep the peace as much as possible I think he probably just doesn’t want to say anything. There are family members in my family that we kind of just have to ignore we can’t really say anything or it’ll blow up in our faces. I think you could talk to him and be like please stand up for me. Please tell your parents it’s my choice. But also I think you can do it too. Let them know why you want to do it and that it’s your choice. That can either be childish with it or not. But I think you could mention it and then leave it at that. You don’t need to make it a bigger deal because you do then I think it’s. Be a bigger problem and they will talk about it more.

You are NOT overreacting. My daughter was EBF, she's 13 months now, so is on proper food too. I've had a few issues with family members who didn't like that I wouldn't pump/bottle feed etc. My response?? I pushed her from my body, I grew her for 9 months. You didn't, so you do not get to have an issue with the decisions I make for my child.

Definitely a stressful situation 😥 They are definitely overreacting and you have every right to feed your baby how you want to. I'm wondering though how your husband was fed as a baby? Did your mother in law only bottle feed him and never had the chance to breastfeed? Or was there social pressure for her to do things a certain way and she's upset because she didn't get to do the things she wanted with your husband when he was a baby? It might also be that she had expectations for certain things when she became a grandma that didn't get met. I'm NOT saying you need to meet her demands, absolutely not. But jealousy and sadness often come out as anger. If you're both willing, I'd suggest sitting down with an unbiased third party (like a therapist) to talk about why she's feeling this way, because I assure you it's NOT you. And your husband should always have your back even if it goes against his own parents. Continue feeding your baby how you want, I hope things can work out and your family can find peace.

17 month old not walking

My son has just turned 17 months and still isn’t walking, he can crawl, pull himself up on things & cruise along furniture. He’s also able to take a few steps if we play a game of back & fourth but gives up quite quickly.

I think he may be double jointed, I’ve spent far too long on Google & im really concerned / starting to not sleep because of it.

Has anyone had any positive outcomes?
I feel like I’m not doing enough etc 😩

Doing so much better

Just wanted to make a post to any other new mums out there who are fixated on your baby’s sleep.
For the first three months it was all I could focus on, making sure she got enough daytime sleep to help stretch out her nights / focused heavily on wake windows. I realised I became obsessive and it was making motherhood so rigid.
For the past few weeks I have thrown it all out the window and have trusted my instinct, stopped tracking on huckleberry and very loosely follow the clock but more so look at my baby’s cues.
Her sleep is still very much up and down but she has given me night stretches of 6 hours at times. The one significant improvement has been in myself and my enjoyment of motherhood. I actually feel free? 🤣
I know schedules work for some but ultimately wake windows are just an average and every baby is different.
I really would recommend to anyone who is struggling with this to just put everything down even for a few days and see if you notice a difference in yourself
I’m here if anyone wants to chat about the wormhole of sleep, the routine of searching everything on Google and the worry of everyday feeling like a battle of naps 💕
