Hi guys, I've been told so many different things about ways of sleeping. I try to sleep on my left but I always find I sleep on my back. Is this ok?

Also having this issue honestly 😅 I have read that sleeping on your back is bad but if you are elevated 30-40 degrees and have your legs raised its ok? 🤷♀️😅 I've got a wedge pillow from amazon and put my usual pillows on top to keep my upper half elevated and i have always slept with pillows under my knees for joint issues anyway, so thats how I've been sleeping for the last few nights, I am seeing my midwife this afternoon so im gonna ask her aswell.
I find i'm not sleeping well at all in a flat side sleeping position, even with a pregnancy pillow, a butterfly support pillow and a knee seperator pillow, and when I am sleeping it's not a deep sleep because I'm constantly worrying about being on my back so im semi awake all night anyway 🤦♀️ I feel like I've tried it all 😭😂

After 28 weeks you should sleep on either side so it’s good to get into the habit now. Do you have a pregnancy pillow? Or try putting pillows behind your back so you can’t lay flat x

I have no idea 🤷♀️ I have seen online that it’s from the 20th week when you can’t sleep on your back because it’s bad…

I’m now 31 weeks and I find myself sleeping on my back a lot. When I do wake up I just try to change to my side. I believe it’s okay to sleep elevated just not completely flat down.

what i was told is if sleeping on your back is going to be a problem for you, you will know. if blood is getting cut off it makes you feel breathless and your body will tell you to move. i was really worried about this and feeling nothing, but then i hit a point in my third trimester where i suddenly REALLY felt it. if your body is telling you it's fine, it's not worth losing sleep over. also, the studies about back sleeping only look at the position you fall asleep in - not positions changing throughout the night. so if you're concerned just make sure you fall asleep on your side each time, and don't worry about if you move while you sleep.

Never been a back sleeper but when pregnant for some reason it is the only position I want to be in. Agree with what someone said about training yourself early to sleep on your side. Pillow behind your back so if you roll over your at a slight angle is what I do. After 20 weeks Lying flat on your back reduces the blood flow to your heart by up to 30%. When your blood pressure drops overnight this drops it further and reduces placental flow. It’s worth trying to avoid but brief periods of back sleep are unlikely to be harmful in the long run. In studies long ago, sleeping on your back was associated with a small increase in stillbirth risk, stress that’s still very small.

I found this hard at first. I was always a back/ left side sleeper and occasionally on my right side. But about 20 weeks i started trying to sleep on my left, and right if i needed to switch it up. At first id wake up on my back all the time. As time went on and my belly became bigger and pelvic girdle pain became worse it became such a hassle to move i just stayed on my side without trying and it was the most comfortable as being on my back for just a minute was so uncomfortable. My baby is almost 4 weeks now and i haven't wanted to sleep on my back since. I think my body is just used to it now.
