Swaddle / sleeping bag

Hey! First time mom here and I am trying to buy all the essentials. I was wondering if I need to buy any sleeping bags/ swaddles for wrapping the baby. Do you have any experiences around this?

Are you planing to have a sleeping bag for the baby in your hospital bag?

Thank you ❤️

The new recommendations for swaddles is advising you to avoid. They have now realised preventing the startle reflex causes developmental issues. They say if you feel you must swaddle then at least have the arms out.

I’m so glad I found this out the day before we went baby shopping as I was definitely planning on doing that originally! .x.x.x.

Yes it only changed recently. It was at a class I went to at the hospital with a midwife. The biggest shock for me was the new regs on car travel. Up to 3 months they can’t be in a car seat for more than 30 minutes. Then 3 months plus for no more than 2 hours. Also front facing car seats are not recommended for anyone under 7 years!!!!!!

We are taking 2 blankets with us for sleep, as we weren't able to swaddle our first, due to medical reasons, so you can safely just use a blanket, but they only teach you how if you need to.

We used sleeping bags from birth at home, no need for them in the hospital. I've never swaddled

I love the tommee tippee sleeping bags as you can leave the arms out. Hospital I finds to hot to swaddle them

I never swaddled my first two and not planning on it this time either. We ended up using cellular blankets for the first few weeks with both as the sleeping bags felt too big and baggy (even though they were above the minmum weight), only switched to sleeping bags as they got older x

Vbac

I’m 31 weeks and I think I’ve made my mind up about a vbac.
I think I’ll book in an elective for 41 weeks (as late as they’ll let me) and see if labour naturally happens before then.
I’m hoping this is the right decision but it’s difficult to differentiate fear over intuition.

Has anyone got any advice on having a vbac? How to physically prepare beforehand and in the hospital?
Just for context, there will be just under 16 months between my first and this baby

🗓️ 1st birthday party!…

my son doesn’t really have any baby friends. I’m hoping to make friends with some mums so they could come to his first birthday party with their babies in October… Cake toys games and music… I just want to make it a special day for him so he can have some buddies.. 💞

Second trimester energy boost

People talk about an energy boost and feeling more yourself in the 2nd trimester. I’m 14w3days today and still feel as tired, low and not myself as I did in the first trimester!! Did other people find this and when did you start feeling better?? xxx

Overdue mamas

I’m 40+5 today and a VBAC and feeling the pressure from midwives to have intervention- anyone else waiting it out? Or any recent positive overdue experiences?

Anyone due late April?

Are we technically only 3-4 weeks still? Not going by gestational age.

Desperate for pregnancy hip pain suggestions 😩

I'm in the last few weeks of pregnancy and have been struggling with really bad one-sided hip/glute pain at night for months. I'm at the point where I'm desperate to know if there's anything I've missed!

It's mainly when I'm lying down at night and it doesn't matter which side I sleep on. When it's bad, sitting doesn't help either. Getting up and walking around is about the only thing that eases it, although even that doesn't always fully relieve it. It's massively affecting my sleep.

So far I've tried:

- Pregnancy pillow/pillows between my legs
- Mattress topper
- Hot water bottle
- Ice packs
- Warm baths before bed
- Massage
- Spiky massage ball
- Various stretches/exercises
- Paracetamol
- Physio
- Osteopathy
- Acupuncture

Physio gave me a little relief for a couple of days after each session but never stopped the pain completely. My first osteopathy appointment made a really noticeable difference for about a week, but unfortunately the second appointment hasn't had the same effect and the pain is back to how it was originally.

I'm continuing with the osteopath, but I'm desperate for some sleep and wondering if there's anything else I haven't thought of. Has anyone experienced anything similar, particularly pain that's worse when lying/sitting but improves when you get up and move around? What helped you get through the nights? ❤️
