Motherhood struggles

Does anyone else feel like being a mum is so much more challenging than you expected it to be?! I don’t think I went into it naively but having said that I find myself struggling more than I thought I would. I am so tired and feel I can never catch up, I don’t recognise my life anymore and I miss the freedom of my old life at times and I thought I would be super nurturing and patient which I try to be but I also get so fed up and frustrated . The monotony of each day drives me crazy and I constantly criticise myself and wonder if I’m doing a good job or someone else would do it better, is this normal , I wonder sometimes if I have some ppd or anxiety but then I also think this may be normal for a new mum….

💯 felt exactly like this with my first! You will adjust, it’s a massive transition and learning curve. I started to feel better around 9 months and actually going back to work around then felt like getting ‘normality’ back. Just had my second and it’s been easier in regards to these feelings, but still tricky as now two kids!

Definitely felt the same!!! I feel like it got better for me at 3 months but it's still tough. I spoke to my health visitor about feeling depressed and she referred me to talking therapies, that really helped me. It is completely normal, it's a complete shift of your life and I struggled with it too. But you can get help to make it easier. You're doing amazing ♥️

Im feeling the exact same. Really struggling with knowing what to do every day & also the huge change in relationship with my partner. I also have such strong emotions, super anxious and angry a lot of the time 🥹

I felt like this with my first, the transition of going from none to one is an absolute life changer! I worried almost everyday that I'd made a mistake and shouldn't have had kids cause it's such a massive change in every aspect of your life but going from one to two I've realised it is just the change of having that absolute freedom to being needed 24/7 and making so many changes that is the hardest part! Once I was in a routine and it became 'normal' I've barely noticed a difference with my second apart from less sleep again 😅 hope it's not a feeling that lasts and you get into a good routine for you, try doing something small each day for you, get out for a walk, watch one of your fav programmes while they're napping (contact naps and binge watching helped me with my first) if you can ask someone to come round to let you nap during the day as the tiredness can make you feel like you're losing it too!

It's so normal unfortunately! I felt like this with my first. As someone else said, going back to work was the best thing for me mentally, to be something other than a mum again. I'm feeling the same way with my second but having a fun 3 year old around helps me remember it's so worth it. It's a long road but it does get so much more enjoyable as they get older (in my honest, personal opinion!) X

The fact that your worrying and wondering whether your a good mum speak volumes in itself that you are 🥰 It a huge life change that no one can really prepare you for, You can miss your old life and still be a good mum its a process you have to find your new 'normal' it will look a little diffrent now, remember time goes by really fast you will only have a baby for a little while so find things that you can do together that you can enjoy mix up your days a bit so it not the same thing day in day out, and most importantly be easy on yourself protect your peace and look after yourself too, maybe have a day or night off from mum duties to be just you again try not to loose you just because your a mum now you are still allowed to be you, You got this mumma 💪🥰 xx

Sleep

I’m at my wits end. My 6 month old is waking every 1-2 hours needing a feed (breastfed and refuses a bottle) and my toddler is waking for hours on end in the night and will only settle for me. I’m getting to the point of having 2-3 hours of broken sleep a night for the past week and I’m really really struggling. My husband says it’s got to the point we just need to let them both cry but my baby is only 6 months and my toddler is just waking the baby up anyway crying and will just run around upstairs . He won’t settle for dad at all. We don’t have a village and there’s nobody who can help me out during the day to look after them to let me sleep. I just don’t know what to do. I’ve tried just letting my toddler come into our bed but he just lies awake and says he wants to go back to his bed. Tried sleeping in his toddler bed but then the baby wakes for a feed. My husband also hates this as he thinks it’s creating a bad sleep association and making the problem worse long term. Really don’t want to co sleep with 6 month old as we both move around lots in our sleep and I would be too scared . Does anyone have any advice that isn’t co sleeping?

Sleeping places

Does anyone else's baby sleep better in their bed then the bassinet or crib? I swear my 8 week baby girl instantly falls asleep and even stays sleeping longer when shes in my bed then her own.

Please tell me I’m not alone 😭😭

Hi! I’m a FTM and lately have been experiencing derealization/depersonalization. Some days it’s so bad other days not so much, I love my baby she’s my entire world and I’m so scared I’m losing my mind. I also have anxiety and most days hate to be alone because it just feels so heavy at home so I tend to leave the house a lot with her. Does anyone know why this happens and ways to help ? I’m meeting with a therapist in a couple weeks :( I just want to feel better.

Sleep regression or developmental leap?

My 3 month (14 week) old formula fed baby has slept through the night consistently since about 8 weeks. The last 3 nights he has woken between 2-3am and seems hungry. I’ve tried rocking him and soothing back to sleep and he does temporarily settle but then wakes up again within a few minutes. So I succumb and make him a bottle and he is draining it every time so he obviously is hungry but isn’t feeding any less during the day than he was previously and is still having a big nighttime bottle, I haven’t changed any part of his bedtime routine etc.

We have just got back from a weeks holiday, but even then we were really hot on sticking to his usual routine, so as not to disturb his usual pattern. His temperature seems fine (not too hot or cold), he is sleeping same amount during the day, doesn’t seem poorly etc. So nothing has changed, with the exception of my husband has started randomly snoring again after months of not snoring (used to be really bad, then he lost a lot of weight and it stopped) which is waking me up and I’m finding really quite irritating 🫠😅 but I’m not sure it’s bothering the baby (although I can’t tell as he’s awake too) so unsure what it could be.

Should I just put it down to a developmental leap, sleep regression or growth spurt at this point? Either way, I’m hoping it settles again as I’m solo parenting for 9 days soon whilst hubby is away for work. Which should make for a more peaceful nights sleep but no extra pair of hands to help a sleep deprived mumma 🙈

Benefits of breastfeeding beyond 1 year old?

As they get older, is it more about emotional attachment rather than the benefits of the breastmilk itself? I ask, as when a child has a varied diet, I wonder if breastfeeding is still necessary? Or, if there is a benefit to a child receiving breastmilk beyond a year old, is it necessary to be from the breast rather than it being expressed?
