Benefits of breastfeeding beyond 1 year old?

I fed my first until he was about 13 months, and then he switched
fully to cow’s milk. But it took about a month of adjusting for his tummy.
For my younger baby I’m going to feed her longer, just for her comfort and the milk has a lot of antibodies, if she gets sick

when baby is sick it’s beneficial to feed from the breast if possible. pretty incredible: “Breast milk begins to change within hours or even minutes of a baby getting sick. When a baby nurses, their saliva goes back into the nipple. The mother's body reads this information, detects pathogens, and quickly increases white blood cells and custom antibodies in the milk.”

AAP, CDC, and WHO recommend breastfeeding until 2 years + if mutually desired.

Definitely are benefits but I was drained LITERALLY. But as long as you feel you can is best.

Mine turned 1 on the 11th and I’ve already been criticized for still continuing my milk , that she stopped formula and that she’s not drinking homo milk 100% of the time. I think it takes time for babies to transition to cow’s milk , I’m not sure what the rush is 🤷🏾‍♀️

Breastmilk still has nutritional value. It’s just that beyond 1, it’s not enough to sustain a toddler by itself but it’s def a meal still to them. It also continues to help with your postpartum healing (remember postpartum recovery/healing it’s 2 years minimum).
