Hi guys, I am currently 39+4 days (internally screaming) and Labour could come any moment now.
Without annoying the majority of mamas out there, my pregnancy has been fairly straight forward and I have had a fairly pleasant experience.
I’m a bit concerned I’m not mentally prepared for labour and tbh I don’t really know what to expect - my periods were always pretty easy (if not heavy due to PCOS) so I don’t really know what “period cramps” feel like and what to expect.
Basically… can someone explain a contraction to me like a 5 year old 😂? How does it feel? I’ve been getting Braxton Hicks so will early labour feel the same?
Thank you !!!

Totally depends on the person. For me at the start it was an intense pain in my lower abdomon but later it moved round to my back. Nothing like period pains in my experience.
Try not to wind yourself up about it and go with the flow. My best advice is to go in to it open minded and listen to your body. Don't be afraid to voice your concerns to the midwives and doctors, your instinct will kick in x

With my 1st i felt exactly the same, how would i know, what would they feel like etc. However, i remember lying in bed watching tv and turning to my husband and saying, my contractions have started.
I just knew instantly & i rarely had braxton hicks x

Awh bless you, completely valid feelings, im still shitting myself for my second. But you're a MOTHER you're built for this, were strong 💪. Not going to lie it is very painful, feels like a STRONG tightening in your lower back/bum/belly which gets more and more intense the closer baby comes. You'll know when you go into labour x

For me the difference between braxton hicks and real contractions were that braxton felt uncomfortable, but never painful. the moment I knew I was having a real contraction was because I thought “oh, that hurt - wasn’t just uncomfortable” 😂
Hope that helps x

And I agree with Natalie, you just know even if you never felt it before xx

I had Braxton hicks a lot, which felt like the baby pushing his legs against my belly and didn't hurt. My contractions started off as just like period cramps so I knew they were the real thing. Over the next 6 hours or so they got more intense and frequent to the point where they were unbearable and happened every 5 minutes or so, and yeah it felt like period cramps x100 and I usually have a really good pain tolerance but I was really struggling, moaning like a baby at the hospital reception. They sent me home because I was only 4cm, and I showed up again in 2 hours and they were like what are you doing back but they checked again and I was 7cm so they admitted me. They said it was pretty rare to go that intense that quickly so I felt more vindicated being such a wimp at the pain 😆

i had a different feeling where my early labour was actually less painful than braxton hicks but I have always had pretty bad period cramps, I also felt it a LOT in my back which I didn't get with my period or braxton hicks. my lil guy was facing my hip so I was having predominantly back pain through labour and apparently made the pain worse

Hey, it is so normal you feel this way. I think no matter how heavy your periods are before giving birth you will not know what labour feels like, and just to make it better everybody feels it differently😅 I was like you too, wanted to know what to expect and talked to friends, watched hundreds of videos about it etc.
Also, until it is actually happening you would not be ready. My baby decided to break free at 33+2 when I thought I still had 7 weeks to prepare myself.
The day before my birth, I had laboured for 4 hours thinking it was Braxton hicks. That felt like mild period cramps. I would describe it as the moment that you are passing a clot of blood, something deep in my belly hurts. The pain peaks and then goes away.
Hi, I have pink spotting after sex, it’s only when I wipe. I’m 8 weeks on Sunday but I also went though a misscarrige in Feb at this stage but wasn’t ever pink. Also have a toddler who’s 2.5 so can’t remember spotting pink when I had him. Anyone else have this?

Hey guys, has anyone had a keloid scar develop from their c-section scar?
The drs have only given me different steroid creams which haven’t helped and have actually made it even more sensitive and irritated.
Has anyone had a steroid injection? If so, did it help?

My husband and I have talked extensively about possibly having our kids 18 months apart or 22 months apart. We want them close in age. I’m 6 months post partum so if we wanted them 18 months apart I’d have to conceive at 10 months post partum and if 22 months I’d have to conceive in march of 2027. I am wondering what are peoples opinions on having two under 2 and if you’ve done it would you do it again? I was c-section for my first due to hip pain as I had prior hip surgeries so my hips had limited range of motion but even when they went and delivered my first they said due to the size of head and how tightly wedged and engaged he was I wouldn’t have been able to deliver him naturally. So I’d likely need another c section which I’m fine with if it gets the baby here safely.
Side note: due to trauma with anesthesia team I am looking for a different provider and have an appointment set up to meet one. For context I was poked 7 times with an IV needle even after the 3rd time when I asked for them to call the IV team and then I was subjected to 3 spinal pokes because they missed twice. And my partner got separated from me while the anesthesia placement happened even though I was told weeks before I could have him there and then they didn’t update him at all when those failed spinal happened he didn’t find out till a day later when I was able to talk about it.

Had my pessary inserted at 12:30 Wednesday night, was monitored until 2am so that’s when I went to bed…contractions started at 4am! I thought wow that’s good stuff, working fast. (There were girls next to me who didn’t have a single contraction the whole 24 hours so I thought I’d be having baby sooner than expected). I was timing them on my app, first of all thet were 5 mins apart. Then they were 3 mins appart. Then from 9am onwards they were 2 mins apart, lasting 1 min and getting more intense. I was constantly counting down the hours for my next check thinking I’d be decently dilated….I got checked after the 24 hours and they said I am only 2cm !!!!! Disappointed isn’t even the word! They said it’s enough to break my waters & I don’t need the next stage of the induction, but I’m seeing people on here go for SWEEPS and being told they’re 4cm without any pain ?? Its REALLY made me doubt myself, If I’m not coping now, how am i actually going to do this ?? Like what on earth does even 4 or 5cm feel like…I don’t even want to know. I’m trying so hard to think of a way out🤣 Im currently keeping myself constantly dosed up on pain relief. (Coedine, oramorph + paracetamol) but i want the epidural already.
Did anyone find that this first stage was super long & hard, and then the second stage was faster & a better experience? Or does it just continue going downhill🤣
