Our son is 14 months and I was tired this morning and gave him a leftover krispy cream donut for breakfast, my husband saw and got upset about it. Was he overreacting or was I in the wrong? I didn’t think it was a big deal

I’m definitely not a no sugar parent but I’m also sure I wouldn’t have given a donut for breakfast at 14 months old 🫣😅

That's not a breakfast. If I saw my partner doing this for my 13mo I would also be upset

Aggreeed^^^

I mean… I’m tired pretty much every morning (chronic fatigue from pcos) and I would still not give my daughter a donut for breakfast at any age… and I think if I saw my husband doing that, yeah I would probably be pretty mad too. It’s a bit too easy to fall into the trap of “oh I’m tired, I’m just going to give my kid crap for breakfast/lunch/dinner”.

If he was around he could've made your child breakfast, but also I wouldn't have given a donut so young either. But ultimately he will be fine right.

Yeah donut is a special occasion food not a breakfast.
Last thing you need is kid throwing tantrums in mornings because he wants a donut instead of healthy option.

It happens but yeah a donut is definitely a treat. It’s not a habit so it’s fine. My 22 month old has had one twice in his life and it was because we were in a rush and were going to eat brunch after church. But I usually feed him really early on church days. He just wasn’t ready to eat that day

I’m pretty sure most of us have done things/ given our children things to eat that others absolutely would not. You’re human, parenting is exhausting at times… it doesn’t sound like you are anyway but do not beat yourself up about this please!

A donut??? Leftover???

I mean it's not that exhausting to throw some cereal in a bowl or butter on toast?

I would not be giving any child regardless of age a donut for breakfast, and definitely not one so young. Breakfast is the easiest meal to prepare. Do better - your partner has every right to be annoyed.

That’s totally fine! My 14 month old ate half my apple cider donut today. She loved it and I don’t feel the slightest bit guilty because it’s just a rare treat. People need to lighten up a bit.

or the times I’ve had to give my head strong 2 year old chocolate to get him in the car etc 😂

I think it at least partly depends on what you’ve agreed upon in terms of food you give your child. In our family we avoid added sugar until age 2, without being ridiculous about it. Like, I’m sure the bread in the bread basket at a restaurant has a bit of sugar, and I’ve certainly given my kids that before age 2. I just buy things at home that are easy to find without added sugar.
Some people start giving kids sugar in moderation earlier on and that can be ok too. Regardless, he shouldn’t have been rude or mean about it, but if it’s something you’d discussed before then I could see why he would be annoyed. Unless you literally had nothing else suitable to feed him for breakfast.

Carbs are necessary for our diet. They are a fast acting fuel for our bodies. But if that’s the only thing you eat then you will have energy crashes and crazy blood sugar spikes. Carbs should always be prepared with protein and healthy fats.
The carbs can give you a boost of energy to get up and go, but the protein and healthy fats carry you through your day and to your next meal.
With carbs alone (especially ultra processed and sugary treats (donuts are treats, not meals)) do not contain what is needed for a person, let alone a child to be satisfied and have long lasting energy for their day.

If my husband gave my child a donut for breakfast, I'd let him be the one to deal with a hungry, miserable toddler on a sugar crash.
My Mum and sister are constantly asking me when my son is starting nursery. Do any other SAHMs constantly have family pressuring them to put their child in nursery? My son is 3 and a half and we are both happy with our little routine and he said he doesn’t want to go to nursery. Plus I want to make the most of our time together before he goes to school 🥺 Pros and cons to nursery? Will he struggle at school if he doesn’t go to a pre school first? We go on trips and to play groups so it’s not like he’s not social and he’s very clever for his age already knows the alphabet and can count etc.

To elaborate,
- If you have a baby/toddler that they put your child for a nap when needed/scheduale.
- They feed your children at the times when they would expect to eat (respect your childs meal times e.g. 12pm & 4pm)
- They don't give your child(ren) sweets/pop if they're not allowed those things.
- If your daytime potty trained child, still wears a nappy for bed, that they put a nappy on them.
- The list is endless to whatever your boundaries are for your child(ren).

I have two children. My mam keeps making comments like “you’re sticking to the rule book, you’re supposed to let all that go with your second”
By the ‘rule book’ she means safe sleep guidelines, bottle prep, weaning at 6 months etc. I kept my oldests cot empty, made bottles as he needed them and started solids at 6 months exactly, never had any problems and so we’ve done exactly the same for my second and for some reason it’s very triggering for her. Recently my youngest has had a cold and the vapour rub we have is 6 months+ my youngest is only 4 months so we’ve not been able to use it. She’s constantly on at me “he’s the same size as some 6 months old he’ll be fine” and when i refused she throws the same “you’re supposed to be more relaxed with your second one it won’t do him any harm”
I’ve told her countless times to keep her useless opinions to herself. Why would I not follow safety and health guidelines? Why is she almost putting pressure on me not to? ITS SO ANNOYING

Hello! I'm 8 weeks pp and my partner is going back to work on Tuesday, he was only due to have a month off but I suffered from post partum depression so he took an extra month off to support me (I know I'm very lucky to have had him around for so long!). I'm feeling so anxious about it, he's a nurse so does 2 12 hour shifts a week and 2 8 hour shifts which is filling me with worry about of I can cope all day with the baby, I'm feeling a little better after starting medication and growing in confidence but I still haven't really took him anywhere on my own that wasn't just a walk around the park to get a coffee, I know they're are lots of groups in my area but I have this fear he will just scream and everyone will look at me as if I can't soothe my baby, I'm just after any tips to make the first week a bit more bearable on my own?
