Postpartum Supplies

Hi! I’m 35 weeks and about to start buying postpartum supplies. It feels like everything is an ad. What did you buy that you really appreciated having for healing after birth? Thank you!

Adult diapers for sure. If you have a vaginal birth get the peri bottle, witch hazel, the tucks medicine pads and hemorrhoid cream.

A really cozy pair of PJS and a bathrobe.

Also stool softeners and start taking them to n the hospital or even before. The first poop after birth is a wild experience.

honestly i didn’t use much apart from period diapers (they’re amazing and work like maternity ones)

I honestly didn’t use that much. Peri bottle for after a vaginal birth. Adult nappies were a godsend! I tried underwear and pads first time but the nappies were more comfy. Plenty paracetamol. Comfy stretchy clothes, nothing skin tight. Button up tops if breastfeeding, plenty nipple pads even if you don’t breastfeed you may leak xxx

If you’re planning on bf, stock up on nipple cream & pads! Also loose fitting clothing for when your at home ♥️

Most hospitals give you a lot of stuff, I would refrain from buying the peri bottle, witch hazel, and dermo plast spray. The only things I bought were extra adult diapers and my own overnight pads because you’ll definitely need more of those. I preferred Rael brand because I have sensitive skin. A heating pad if you don’t already have one just in case you get cramping. Vitamins (postpartum or prenatal). Make sure you have hydration, especially if you’re planning on breastfeeding. My go to was lots of water, some water with electrolytes, and coconut water cocktails. And I would recommend meal prepping something’s you can freeze, the first two weeks can be an adjustment with a newborn. The last thing you want to do is try to figure out what you’re going to eat or constantly have to order out, grab and go’s saved us.

Disposal diapers, overnight pads, peri bottle. If you’re planning on a vaginal birth I’d also recommend tucks witch hazel pads. Button up pjs tops and nursing bras if you’re planning on breastfeeding or pumping. Stretchy pants. I had a c section I really loved my reusable ice packs for additional pain control

Put the money into food prep!

Every time you go food shopping pick up some paracetamol and ibuprofen. You can only get one of each because of the laws. If you end up with a c-section this is the only pain relief you will have + if you don’t then you’re stocked up for the future. I think I went through 6 packs of each until I didn’t need them anymore which is about 9-10 days worth.

If your gonna breastfeed definitely get silverettes they saved me the first few weeks

Frida mom disposable shorts and the Lilets maternity pads 🙌🏼
And nipple shield in case!

I think I used tena pads, I went through more of those than I thought.
Get a nice oversized hoodie,.I got a mens one from Primark that could snuggle both me and baby in 🤣
Wash your bedding so that when you're back from hospital you can slip into clean sheets, oh sleep on a towel 👍🏼
I also had an old towel for midnight nappy changes, that way baby isn't going into a cold mat while getting changed

This is everything I used and recommend for everyone!

The only major things I had after were the "nappies" like the big granny maternity ones and giant pads. If you think you have enough, get more! And nipple cream. I will say if youre not breastfeeding get a good supportive comfortable sports bra too. I had an emergency section so not sure what else you might need for the downstairs area but definitely pads 😅 oh and loose comfortable clothing. I lived in basically underwear and dressing gowns for the first few months

I loved my Stanley cup, after thinking they were silly for years. Keeps the drink cold for hours so you can stay hydrated when baby trapped.
Also stock up on dried fruit and maybe some over the counter laxatives. Constipation is best avoided!

Unsafe use of carriers, do you tell them?

I see so many people with small babies using carriers completely wrong but I never know if I should say anything. And if I do, I don’t want to come across like I’m chastising them, I just want their baby to be safe. Would you say something?

Cleaning

How are we cleaning our babies bits?! I try to clean my little girl the best I can but there still looks to be white discharge in between the folds. I dont want her to get sore but also dont really know how to get in there without that hurting too?!

13 Month Review

So my daughter goes to nursery and recently they have reported back about her communication saying it not where they’d expect. Has anyone else had this?

I’d say she isn’t too bad with her communication, she says a few meaningful words, she understands what you say and follows it. She understands gestures like opening and shutting when you say open etc. she points to things she wants.

I constantly talk to her saying the names of objects etc, show her book and name things in them. I sign a lot of gestures that I hope she’ll start to use.

No doubt the nursery are doing what we pay them for by doing observations, and I definitely want my child to progress. But I just feel it’s a bit harsh as I’m doing everything already that they recommend to build communication.

I just don’t know what else to do.

Can anyone help?

Can you lift the a newborn out of the Moses basket?

This might sound stupid, but everyone says you can't do any lifting so I'm really confused about how I'm supposed to get the baby out of the Moses basket at night.
Do you keep the baby on your side or your partner side and have them help?

Finding joy postpartum - really struggling

I’m less than 2 weeks PP and I’m really struggling to find the joy in motherhood.

I wanted this baby so much, he’s IVF and such a conscious decision but I’m so unhappy.

I’m in touch with my midwives, the MH team, tried Samaritans and PANDAS but I’m only feeling worse.

I think it’s particularly hard because he has a tongue tie that means he cluster feeds basically all day and I can’t do a thing. He’ll scream anywhere but my breast.

I was wondering if anyone struggled post partum, and what they actively did to find joy and connection with their baby? I’m truly starting to wonder if I hate it and if I genuinely love him. I’m so clouded with sadness.

Nappy changes

Just wondering if anybody else also was disgusted by the thought of changing a nappy! I hate the smell and gag at the sight of it when my sister changes my nephew 😭 Any tips for how I can get over this with my own?
