Finding joy postpartum - really struggling

I’m less than 2 weeks PP and I’m really struggling to find the joy in motherhood.

I wanted this baby so much, he’s IVF and such a conscious decision but I’m so unhappy.

I’m in touch with my midwives, the MH team, tried Samaritans and PANDAS but I’m only feeling worse.

I think it’s particularly hard because he has a tongue tie that means he cluster feeds basically all day and I can’t do a thing. He’ll scream anywhere but my breast.

I was wondering if anyone struggled post partum, and what they actively did to find joy and connection with their baby? I’m truly starting to wonder if I hate it and if I genuinely love him. I’m so clouded with sadness.

I’m so sorry you are struggling.
Remember that these 6 weeks are the hardest part. Prolactin can make you feel really low and depressed. Please make sure you are getting sleep and if you need feeding support or adjustments do it without shame. Is your partner being supportive?

I had a very similar experience, mines 4weeks and she feeds all day and had to get a tongue tie release and still working on improving her latch. I hate to say it but it does get better - I know it’s annoying everyone says it but don’t think of the big milestones, every single day I feel slightly more me and a little better and she smiled for the first time today- totally worth it, she even slept 9 hours last night 🎉.

It's pretty hideous to start with if you ask me 🙈 my only suggestion would be if you'd be happy expressing so you could share some feeds?

My little one loved a cluster feed in the evening but I couldn't cope with it so my mum would come over (single IVF mumma!) and we'd get him fed then long him out for as long as possible to get a larger feed in him, few nights of that and he was feeding well every three hours.

It's the trenches and don't feel guilty about feeling that way! I cried for about 4 weeks I think 🫠

If you don't fancy expressing then try where you can to just get a little bit of time to yourself...a bath or something you enjoy even if it's just an hour. It's all consuming.

I know (because I never believed or cared when people said it) it's hard but it does get better I promise!

I'm sorry you are struggling. I had a similar experience with my first and I can honestly say it will get better, although I know that it doesn't always help.
I remember when he first smiled at 5/6 weeks and that was a really turning point and I started to feel like it was worthwhile.
Keep talking about your feelings and seek help as much as possible. Feeding is the most difficult thing but when it finally clicks it becomes so much easier and worthwhile.
Sending love xx

Honestly the first 6 weeks is just really hard, I cried every day.
But while they're cluster feeding try and do something you enjoy, read a book, watch your favourite show, play games on the switch, crochet etc.
They will start to look at you and interact after that first 6 weeks and start to smile. They're just a hungry screaming sleepy potato until then.

I think it’s normal to feel a lot of disappointment with motherhood when things aren’t matching your expectations after all the extra hard worked poured into IVF to bring your child to this world 😤. I formula fed my IVF baby but he also cluster fed in the first 4 months and it was relentless 🫠! You need sleep (at least 4 hours) to improve your mental health, do you have anyone to help you with doing one night feed per night?

I didn’t start to feel more connected to my baby until I start taking him out to baby sensory play groups from 4 months. If I knew about it earlier I would have gone there earlier. It’s good to chat with other mums and good for the baby’s development too.

I struggled massively with my son. He had tongue tie also and was constantly on the breast it felt relentless… those first 6-8 weeks i would say i remember being in the trenches woth him not leaving the house… but please dont feel like a bad mother or dosheartened because it does get easier i promise you ! I ended up switching to part bottles part breast after 6 weeks i figured he had gotten enough goodness from the colustrum by that point and he continued to gain weight so figured what the hell must be doing something right 😂honestly dont feel pressure to always be happy cos its bloody hard work those first weeks and hormones all over too x

Reassurance please

Hi all, just after some reassurance as everything online tells me to be worried!

My son is almost 18 months old and still doesn’t say any proper words. He literally says “Ga” to everything.

He does respond to his name, points, waves, follows most commands (like “bring me the ball”..etc).

Should I be worried he’s not speaking yet, or have others experienced this and their children were just later developing speech?

Unsafe use of carriers, do you tell them?

I see so many people with small babies using carriers completely wrong but I never know if I should say anything. And if I do, I don’t want to come across like I’m chastising them, I just want their baby to be safe. Would you say something?

Naps with a cold? (Potential chickenpox)

My little girl is 1 next week and has been completely off, she’s screamed for 2.5 hours last night before bed only to sleep for 2.5hpurs and wake up at 11:15-1:50. She woke up this morning at 8:45 and was awake but looked so tired bless her. I’ve been trying since roughly half 9 to get her down for her morning nap, she’s yawning and rubbing her eyes but fully refusing, screaming, arching her back and shaking her head. She’s screamed that much she’s sweating. She’s got a couple spots on her face and a snotty nose. She’s just not herself. I’ve had very little sleep dealing with her last night and I’m also unwell. I literally could cry with her. She’s been so off. I went on my hen do and stayed away on Saturday so thought it could be maybe she just missed me but this isn’t right, and I’ve got no one to come and help just give me 5 minutes to have a quick shower and a break because my fiancé is at work. Any advice?

13 Month Review

So my daughter goes to nursery and recently they have reported back about her communication saying it not where they’d expect. Has anyone else had this?

I’d say she isn’t too bad with her communication, she says a few meaningful words, she understands what you say and follows it. She understands gestures like opening and shutting when you say open etc. she points to things she wants.

I constantly talk to her saying the names of objects etc, show her book and name things in them. I sign a lot of gestures that I hope she’ll start to use.

No doubt the nursery are doing what we pay them for by doing observations, and I definitely want my child to progress. But I just feel it’s a bit harsh as I’m doing everything already that they recommend to build communication.

I just don’t know what else to do.

Can anyone help?

Cleaning

How are we cleaning our babies bits?! I try to clean my little girl the best I can but there still looks to be white discharge in between the folds. I dont want her to get sore but also dont really know how to get in there without that hurting too?!

What is everyone's thoughts about having 2 under 2/under 3? How did work take it when u told them u was pregnant again ? Trying to decide if we should or not. My partner is 32 in a few months time so he will be about 50 when our little man turns 18😅
