When is the right time to start IVF?

Go for it. As an IVF mum of two, there’s never really a perfect time to do it you just make it work. I’d get on it now x

There's usually a couple months wait for getting all admin and sti checks etc in place before ivf. So factor that into your plans. Maybe try for 3 months then get ivf ball rolling. If you land pregnant whilst waiting then even better

IVF takes so long - for us: from start to finish for first child was 1 year (and that doesn’t include the 5 IUI’s we did before that). For my daughter, it took 15 months from start to finish. I’m a bit of an outlier so these aren’t average and not meant to scare you. But IVF is not a “I go through treatment for 3 months then I’m pregnant” thing. It’s highly varied and can take a while and it’s not guaranteed.

If you have the financial means to start now, I’d say do it.

I know there’s other factors, such as age, but speaking from my experience - my clinic didn’t want to rush to IVF. They wanted me to do 3 cycles of IUI first (after 6 cycles of letrozole failed). I ended up getting pregnant naturally before my second IUI, which was crazy since we tried for 3 years with no luck!!! but I’m glad I didn’t rush to IVF for that reason too (saved me $$$ since my insurance doesn’t cover!)

I think a lot would depend on your age. If you’re 35 or younger you’ve probably got more time, take more supplements etc etc to save money. 35-37 you probably have time but do you know what your AMH/egg reserve is as if that’s low then you may want to move to ivf sooner.
If you’re over 37 then I would say you’d want to move fairly quickly to ivf as egg quality deteriorates with age- specially late 30s-into 40s.
IVF also not guaranteed and can take ages (took 2 years for me to finally get pregnant with my son after starting) so you can still try naturally alongside it too. I’ve heard of people who are about to start their ivf round and find out they are pregnant so you never know.

When you feel ready. There isn’t a perfect amount of time. IVF is intrusive and emotionally draining and just a lot mentally and physically. So be sure that you’re ready in every way before embarking on the journey
