I'm just annoyed, I was late once to nursery pick up and was made to feel so guilty

I'm just needing to vent honestly as I've had such a shitty morning.

My son finishes nursery at 11:45am every day, but they like parents to pick up between 11:35-40. I am there to pick him up on time every single day without.

I also have a baby, who I need to take with me to pick up.

Today as I was leaving I was literally picking her up to put her in the the pram and she done a massive poo. I quickly put her down on her mat and changed her, and then left. It took me a few minutes but I still managed to arrive for 11:45. I know this is technically 'late' for their preferred pick up times but I figured they'd understand a few minutes.

I buzz to get in and as the lady opens the door for me I go to apologise for being a few minutes late but before I even get a chance to get a word out she says "can I just remind you pick up time is 11:40" in such a horrible tone, talking to me like a child. I says sorry and explained it was just typical baby had a dirty nappy as I was trying to leave trying to lighten the mood a little. She then goes on to tell me that all the children who stay til 3 have their lunch at 11:45, so I need to make sure I'm here at 11:40, because now my son is crying because he was told he isn't getting lunch with the other kids. She was laying it on really thick that my son was upset and it was my fault because I was late. She repeated like 3 times that he was *really* upset. I was stood there feeling so small and guilty and thinking wow well you've just spent at least 3 minutes here explaining how bad it is that I was late, turning 5 minutes into 8 minutes but okay... I apologised.

Then she goes to fetch my son, and he comes out smiling and runs over to me for a cuddle. She then comes over with a tissue and starts going on again like "aw he was so upset" and wiping his face even though he wasn't crying? She was like "see I told you mummy was coming" and then she turned back to me and says "I had to keep telling him mummy will be here in 2 minutes, she'll be here in a few minutes, she's just coming" like I'm sorry but I was 5 MINUTES LATE.

I know I was wrong for being late. I apologised several times. I would understand her tone if maybe I was late all the time but I'm never late. Ever. I just left feeling so guilty and embarrassed and needed to vent😔

You apologize once and then you leave it at that. This lady wanted you to kiss her ass with apologies. They could've handled that better because they didn't have to make your son feel left out. I would've shut it down. In the future, you can say "I heard you the first time" and then walk away.

I take it your session fee is for up to 11:45? Because although it's only 5 minutes a day that quickly adds up if extra time Vs fee that you're paying and not receiving, they should consider adjusting their schedule if that's the case, not sure what country you are in but I'd be fuelled by being spoken to like that and I'd consider talking to the council (UK) and asking if it's fair for you to be paying for session times you don't receive

Erm, if you're paying for him to be there until 11.45 and you arrive to pick him up at 11.45 you are not late?! I'd honestly look to change nursery if that's an option for you...

Honestly I don’t even think you had anything to apologise for? You pay until 11.45, 11.40 might be a preferred pick up time, but that’s all it is - PREFERRED. I wouldn’t feel guilty or embarrassed. She should be the one feeling like that by speaking to a parent that way, and honestly I’d half a mind to complain to a manager about her attitude 🤷‍♀️

Ask for the manager/school head because that would piss me off 100%

If he was truly upset that the other kids got food and he didn't why didn't they give him a snack or side of something to hold him over for a few minutes. And 5 minutes really shouldn't be that big of a deal.

That’s ridiculous, clearly their lunch system doesn’t work !

Out of the fact she was being very weirdo talking to you, I really hate the fact that she tried to manipulate your son to be sad and upset to prove her point... Is it this way she manage and teach your child during the day ? Disgusting. I would report her to the direction and if it's an option change nursery. This is super messed up

I’m sorry that lady was rude to you. I’ve accidentally missed the drop off bus before (didn’t know it was early dismissal) and staff was understanding. However, there was a time my daughter was to come home on the bus instead of going to the boys and girls club and the teacher took it as she was supposed to be on pickup. She’s never been on pickup. I didn’t have a car and was over a mile from the school. The principal tried being an ass to me when I figured it out, even tho I had proof it was a miscommunication between the teacher and I. Some people are just miserable. A little understanding goes a long way.

Why don't they serve lunch at 12 and therefore they can be guaranteed that all 11.45 people have gone. After all people are late, they get stuck in traffic, accidents happen etc
They sounds rude as owt!

I was an assistant director for a preschool, my question is what does your enrollment packet say? Does it say 11:45 or 11:40.. if it says 11:45 you are absolutely fine, and were not late. In which you can say “well per the enrollment packet, my son is cleared to be here until 1145, so I am not late. I understand that your preference is for parents to arrive a few minutes early for pickup, but I am In fact right on time per the handbook.” If it says 1140 then yes you were technically late, but teachers and directors should understand a few times being late. If this was a regular occurrence then that would be different, but that was very disrespectful. Was she a director or manager? Or just a front desk lady? I would report her honestly.

How do you talk about periods?

My little girl is three and she will often follow me into the toilet so when I'm on my period she sees it and it's not something I hide from her and I know she's curious about what it is but I don't quite know how to address it...

Like we're very honest and open about things and we use the correct anatomical names for body parts etc and I want to be honest and open with her about this because it will happen to her one day... But I'm having a hard time understanding how to do it at the right level for her that will help her understand but also not scare her? Cause if I say "it's blood and it will happen one day to you to" - to a three year old surely that is absolutely terrifying 😂

Any tips?

Am I being too unreasonable?

I came out of hospital on Tuesday night after having surgery for an ectopic pregnancy.
I am in pain and haven't left the house apart from to pick my daughter up from nursery last night. I don't feel confident driving yet so my partner drove. Last night before we left for nursery we found he had a flat tyre. I said to just use my car until the tyre gets fixed today.
He needs to go to his friends to collect the tire then fit it. He's asked to go to his friends as soon as we've dropped our daughter off at nursery but I just want to come home. I've tried to explain I'm not in the mood to see people, sit in peoples company and I just want to go home to rest but he's saying I'm being unreasonable and it'll only take 20 minutes. I've asked if he can just drop me off home and he can go to his mates but he's not happy.
Am I being unreasonable?

Has anyone ever had to leave a baby and toddler group because of their child's behaviour?

I think my 2 year old son was just tired today but he was rolling around, throwing things, running off and it became so stressful that I just left the group.
Felt like quite a bad parent even though he's usually fine and enjoys it.

ahhhh

i don’t know why but i feel like i suck at being a mom.
my baby just turned 2 last week and yes i know “ terrible two’s” but my kid has always been bad. i do discipline when needed, i get him in trouble but he just does not care. i feel like im not meant to be a mom i don’t know i just suck. my kid does not take me serious he thinks it’s a joke. i can’t even get my own child into a routine and i thought i was doing good by putting him down for naps by a certain time and bedtime now it’s just a fail. his meltdowns are insane and then his stupid dad doesn’t help me out much. while i’m stuck dealing with my kid his dad can sleep like nothing.
