Nipple compression

If you're getting lipstick shaped nipples then unfortunately the latch is not good! The nipple should be hitting the soft palette and not being compressed at all during feeding. Who did your feeding assessment?

I’ve gone through exactly the same journey. Lipstick nipples after feeding, extremely painful and shallow latch, pain and burning after feeding. I’ve seen a dozen midwives, GPs, healthcare visitors, had phone calls, face to face appointments.

Baby was diagnosed with a tongue tie and corrected at 4 weeks. My breasts started improving by 8-9 weeks. The latch is still shallow but doesn’t hurt anymore 🫠🤷‍♀️

Have you tried nipple shields? They saved my BF journey. I was literally bracing myself before feeding because it hurt so bad, but shields gave me time to heal whilst still feeding my babe.

If you have a pediatric dentist then I’d go to them and see if they have a lip or tongue tie. Pediatricians and lactation consultants might say they don’t have one. But the smallest bit of a tie could cause feeding problems so I’d get and get it checked and get it cut. My kids had a slight one and after they got it cut both were able to feed. I couldn’t feed for long but they still were able to latch better

You said baby won’t latch with shields. Maybe start introducing a bottle as well to help give yourself a break at times but also get them used to that silicone and maybe they’ll be able to use shields
