Sleep training

We’re in the gutter of the 4 month regression. My son wakes up ever hour at night screaming. We cosleep and that has made zero difference. He doesn’t always wake up to eat sometimes he just wants us to walk him. I feel like im going insane havent slept in three weeks now. During the day he only does contact naps. Next week im going to try to get to stop doing the contact naps but im terrified that hes going to go crazy and sleep will be even worse. I’m going to do the Ferber method week. I need encouragement and tips and tricks if you have any!

It worked wonders for us! That particular method. We did every 2min, pat tummy (no pick ups), NO eye contact just constant shushing. Only stayed in there for a minute each time I walked in. Then we gradually increased times to 5, 10, and then eventually she would go to sleep. They just need to be assured you’re there and they’re safe. I swear by that method! I did it TWICE with both of mine. No more babies for me though 🤣

Ahhh the newborn stage lol there is so much about the new born stage that I miss but the sleep regressions, and first teething week, the constipation, I absolutely do not.

You are 100% going crazy lol but it’s a wave you just need to ride my dear. Thankfully, even though it feels like something you’ll never get through- you will this is temporary. What helped me get ahold of myself was I would remind myself that if IM fed up and exhausted and terrified he’s got to be equally as fed up and exhausted and terrified as me if not more. So lock tf in mum he’s feeding off of your energy right now you need to snap out of it. Put him somewhere safe, take a shower or have a smoke whatever you need to do to quiet your mind for one second and reel it in.

If you are positive that baby is just going through sleep regression then get ready for a new skill cause that’s what he’s cooking up! Try to hang onto that and think of these hard nights and weeks as a good thing big picture.

We loved the Ferber method we just did less time. Like I think it goes up to 30 min of not going on. I think we did max 10 min ish. I think we did it after the sleep regression because it’s such a struggle. So you can definitely try it not but if it’s too much or not working then wait until after the regression then do it

Safe bed sharing with breastfeeding while lying down on one side has saved us. 5 months postpartum now and everybody gets a good night's sleep.

Most nights no crying. We cuddle together all night.

Young babies have a deep, deep symbiotic relationship with the birthing mother and need contact with her to know they are safe. It's what all other mammals do.

If you're bed sharing and breastfeeding, your body will often be in light sleep or even wake up before theirs does because you are so in sync hormonally.

Ferberising is not for us as my nervous system will not allow me to leave a crying child who cannot talk, walk, eat or potty by themselves alone. My body is screaming like there is a fire in the house I'm ignoring, and the child is wired that way to make sure they don't get eaten by a predator! 💔

Each parents to their own though, as my mum did it with me and I don't seem to have any obvious problems as a result and always slept well from very early on right through the night.

One thing that helped as well was to stop framing it as a "regression". Developmentally, it's a progression: they're hitting some milestone - better motor skills, or social skills, or vision, or awareness of the world or their own body, etc., so skills they have already learned get a bit hindered in the meantime. At 4-6 months, if there's an apparent backstep in sleep it's often that their sleep cycles are shifting to match what adult sleep does rather than how they slept in the womb. 🥹😊☺️ So your baby is preparing himself with the skills for sleeping through the night long term.

I have two friends with 4mo who are going through this right now too. Our daughter was also like this at 4mo. Frequent wakes for babies are biologically normal and actually an advantage - they are protective against SIDs and ensure baby’s needs are met. I napped in bed with baby for contact naps to help catch up on sleep. During the night, we started bedsharing at this age and nursing sidelying was an absolute lifesaver. Its intense and exhausting but is really a short period in your life with your child. Your baby wont always need as much sleep support as they do from you now. Finding ways to support me in getting more sleep/rest was a better solution for our family than trying to control my baby’s sleep. Good luck 🫶🏽

Disposable underwear

Hi everyone!
I had baby #1 in Nov 2024 and now due again next month. I had a random question on disposable underwear.
With baby #1 I remember I wore disposable underwear for a week or 2 while I was very heavily bleeding! I used to put a maternity pad on it too for extra cautiousness.
Now I remember my maternity pads were lilets but I cannot for the life of me remember what disposable underwear I had. All I remember is it was black

Anyone able to recommend there’s or perhaps know what I may have used??

Thanks
