Tracking movements

Hi! I’m just over 25 weeks pregnant with our first and I think I’m overthinking movements. Sometimes he’ll move at similar times each day, then other times I’ll think “oh I haven’t felt him much in the past hour or so” when he has moved at that time previously. And sometimes he has a bit of a quiet day, other days he’s booting me in the side. I have been to triage and they said he’s not neurologically developed enough to get a pattern of movements just yet, but I did the right thing to get checked. Has anyone else struggled with the overthinking and do you have any tips to help?? Thanks!!

Definitely have struggled with overthinking. I’m 33 weeks and still overthink it! It took a long time to notice a pattern and my baby still has quieter days and then days when I feel her a lot more. It depends on their position, how busy you are etc. I’ve noticed that when my baby’s back is towards my front (I also have an anterior placenta) it feels different too.
I asked a midwife in MDU and she said if you’re ever worried, sit or lie for 45 mins or so without any distractions, no tv or phones and really tune in to the movements.
Even just this morning I panicked as she wasn’t moving as much but then she seemed to wake up and started moving around a lot again!

I think it’s common to not feel them so much during the day when you’re up and about but you will get a sense of what’s normal for you as the weeks go by. I would say I didn’t really have an idea of a consistent pattern until I was about 30 weeks. But if you ever feel that something is off, it’s fine to get checked.

I definitely have this too, I’m 26 weeks and she’s mostly active at night but sometimes she doesn’t move I get worried so I normally give my belly a little shake to make sure and drink water.

I remember with both my first and second when I was on the CTG monitors the midwives would suggest drinking water if baby wasn’t that active so also could be a bit of dehydration.

But don’t panic, if you notice that they were active all day before that most probably they’re okay but because we’re still early they’re still figuring their own pattern out.

However always listen to your gut feeling as well. I remember I would always pop into MAU if I felt babies movements were low since you aren’t 26 weeks they can’t put you on the monitor yet but at least they can have a listen in to his heartbeat just for peace of mind xx

I think sometimes it’s more you having a pattern than them. Like I know whenever I was in work I was still a lot so would notice the kicks more than during the afternoon when I was walking round. When I lied in bed on my side I could always feel him less too. If I was getting a bath he’d go crazy. If I ate he moved more, and I tend to eat my meals the same time of days. Just things like that if you know what I mean?
I don’t think my boy ever had a pattern it was just more my pattern.
It’s better to get checked out then not though so do not worry about it and trust your gut.

I am very much the same! I feel a lot more movement at night when I am led still but thats not to say that I dont feel movement during the day. I find water or a small cup of tea ( one sugar) also helps but the midwife advised me to only drink tea in moderation.

Its very easy to overthink and worry but if you are concerned go with your gut and get checked out

Overthinking is very easy when you start feeling your baby (even before 😅).

Babies, inside or outside the womb, are not pre-programmed machines. They feel, grow, change. The pattern they have now will quickly change as they evolve. Some babies don't move much, others move so much and so strong they break ribs.

Expecting a reliable pattern on a daily basis for the duration of the pregnancy is not realistic. It can happen, of course, but if it doesn't, it's still okay. As long as there are no medically relevant symptoms, it's most probably all going well.

In case you really feel like something is wrong inside, don't think twice - contact your midwife/the hospital. They will assess you and you'll decide together what's best.

Collecting Colostrum

Only putting this here as I don’t have anyone to say this to 😂. Started collecting colostrum today at 36 weeks. I’m getting induced at 37 weeks due to little one being on the smaller side so I was advised by my midwife to start collecting this week. I managed to get 0.5ml this morning after 10 minute(might have been more if I didn’t miss the syringe as no one told me how fiddly it was 😂). For my first time collecting I would say that wasn’t bad at all.

Waters broke — no contractions

Waters broke at 2am

It’s now 11am and hardly any (if at all) contractions.

Currently on the ward but how can I get labor going?!

I really really really don’t want to be put on a drip!!!

Heart beat

I went for my 16 week appointment with my husband and my midwife managed to find the heart beat with the Doppler today. It's the first time I've been able to hear it because in my scans they didn't let me hear it. It felt so surreal and I can't stop listening to it. Baby also kicked when she was listening. I just can't wait for my 20 week appointment now to see baby again and hopefully find out the gender. The heart rate was 140 today

Advice Please

Yesterday my waters broke at 40w and 4d at 6pm.
I was kept in hospital and started on the gel straightaway. I had that at 2am this morning and apart from twinges of pain in my groin it doesn’t seem to have worked. I’m on the list for labour ward to start on the drip but have been told by a student midwife it could be a couple of days as they are busy.
Surely when your waters have broken you can not be left that long? Very worried about myself and baby.

Testing at 12 week scan

I am currently 10w +3, I had my first midwife appointment last week. She mentioned about the screening for Down's syndrome, Edwards' syndrome and Patau's syndrome and that this would be done at my 12 week scan if we wanted it. I know it’s only to advise if the chance is higher or lower of the baby having this but I’m sooo torn whether to have it! Just looking for a bit of advice really, do most people have this testing done? Is there anyone that didn’t?

Thankyou
