C section

I had an emergency c section and honestly not half as scary as I expected it to be. I had been pushing for almost 2 hours (10lb 10 baby, back to back) and so the relief I felt when the spinal tap went in was immense! The surgery team were lovely and it was such a lovely calm environment. Everyone introduced themselves by name and what their job was, my husband was right beside me the whole time and we could still delay cord clamping, do skin to skin etc. We put music on and the midwife took pictures of the surgery too so we have the memories forever. I had the section at 6:31am and was up and showing by 2pm. It was peak heatwave season so the worst bit for me was having to wear compression socks for six weeks and be on blood thinners for six weeks. It does take time to heal but make sure to air your scar out where you can every day and take it slowly, particularly in the first couple of weeks. I'm now 11 weeks pp. Feel free to ask any questions!

I had a planned C-section with my second and it was a really positive experience. The waiting in the morning is hard because it just made me more nervous (and I was very hungry 😅) it is also very strange walking to your own surgery. But the staff made me feel really cared for and relaxed. Baby was out very quickly once the surgery started (I actually didn't even realize they had started when I heard his cry). And once he was born my attention was all on him and I didn't really care what was going on with the surgery. Recovery was much easier than I expected it to be.

I had an emergency section, I had been labouring for 12 hours before things changed and they decided I needed to go down to theatre.

I agree with the first comment the feeling when the epidural goes in it’s a real relief.

Obviously not everyone feels the same, but even as an emergency one it was a beautiful experience, daunting of course, it’s new, your feelings and fears are valid, but the second they place baby on you, it’s like you’re not even in theatre, your bubble starts there and its great. My surgical team were lovely and honestly I have no regrets, if I had another I’d have no fear personally about having another.

I had my boy at 22:38pm back on ward by about midnight (after being closed up and obviously in recovery) and I was up and showering by about 5/6am. (This was 2 years ago so can’t remember exact times)

I was personally on blood thinners for 10 days, recovery was easier than expected
