Hiya, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or something similar?
I’m currently 34+3 with a 97% baby (currently 5lb 8oz) and I’ve had around 4–5 episodes of really severe stomach/rib and back pain over the last 3 weeks.
The worst episode was 9/10 pain and lasted around 4 hours. It started underneath my boobs/ribs and around into my middle/lower back. It was a constant pain that wouldn’t stop rather than coming and going.
I couldn’t stand straight, sit, lie down or kneel comfortably and could only really bend forward. I also had vomiting, dizziness/seeing stars and sweating.
I went into MFAU because of it and they monitored baby, took swabs and checked me over. They put it down to possible food poisoning/bowel issues.
I’ve had a few episodes of this now so surely it’s not just that ?
I think he has been changing between head-down and transverse. It’s made me wonder whether the pain could possibly be happening when he moves transverse and then eases when he moves back, or whether it genuinely is bowel/digestive related.
Has anyone had anything similar, Did you ever figure out what was causing it? ♡

This sounds very similar to the trapped gas pains I get. I got them as bad as you are describing with my first and now with my second I’ve gotten them a few times but not nearly as bad. A few things that have helped me get past them:
- Chewing gum
- Hot cuppa of mint tea
- Warm shower with the water focused on the area that hurts
- Chewable antacid tablets (I’m American and get the Tums branded ones from the states but I think the closest here would be Rennies. It’s the calcium based ones that midwives and OBs both told me were safe during pregnancy)
- Having your partner rub/lightly tap on the area to get the gas to move. Like you would with an infant you are trying to burp.
- Doing your best to pass gas from top or bottom. I know it’s gross but you feel so much better after 🙈😂

This sounds very similar to an episode I experienced. This is my second baby and the pain was unbearable, right under my ribs, I was sweating, vomiting, no position made it any better, so so intense.
After all the usual test and monitoring, hospital weren’t really sure, but landed on a possible severe case of acid/indigestion/reflux. They prescribed me omeprazole which I now take daily and luckily it has never happened again.

That sounds like when I used to get gallbladder attacks from gallstones. Pregnancy can trigger gallbladder issues so I'm surprised nobody has suggested it. I had my gallbladder removed last autumn but when I used to get attacks it was just like that intense pain and vomiting for hours that nothing would help until it eventually passed. I was fobbed off for about a year with doctors saying it was indigestion/reflux etc.
Look into it and see if you think your symptoms match, then I'd speak to your GP about it rather than midwife/triage, as it isn't specifically a pregnancy issue. Ask to be referred for an ultrasound of your gallbladder as that would confirm gallstones or not.
If it is that, the only thing that used to help me was hot water like a bath or shower. It didn't stop the pain but made it a little more manageable. Not sure about during pregnancy but you can take buscopan which helps some people and gallbladder attacks can be triggered by fatty foods so sometimes looking at your diet can help.
Did you notice any signs or anything before labor started?
I’m 39 weeks and a day and I’ve had the runs with everything I eat and felt a bit sick yesterday. Really hoping things kick off naturally and I don’t need to be induced. I’m a first time mom so not a clue what to expect.
I feel like I’ve been losing my mucus plug for weeks so don’t think that will be a sign unless it becomes a bit bloody.
Is it right that your waters don’t have to go first and you can just start with contractions?

I’m 6 weeks 3 days today I’ve had no bleeding until just now… my pants are black but when pressing tissue on them there’s blood and when I wiped there was blood now. Is this normal? I’ve had no cramping etc

I’ve got my 20 week scan when I’m there can I ask for my matb1 or does it have to come from my midwife who I see in the surgery

I'm due in January and my husband and I are trying to figure out what to name her. We want to do something unique because we both have super common names. Any suggestions?
