Percentile accuracy

I’m 34 weeks and bump was measuring on the 90th percentile! My midwife has tried to reassure me this doesn’t mean a big baby, so does anyone have clarity on why they measure bump if it means nothing?

I’m had my 31 week appointment on Monday and measuring the 89th percentile, i think they measure more so to make sure it’s a steady trajectory of growth more than the actual size don’t worry too much, Ive had so many friends saying they’re measuring huge and have 6lb babies, I was told my first baby was going to be huge too (like 9lb+) and she was a healthy 8lb 4oz xx

Mine is too! And my previous baby weighed 10lb when she was born however my bump had always measured on track with her so Ive been super worried this time but my midwife has basically said they won’t do anything as she’s not concerned so I’m just hoping the bump measurements don’t mean anything. I was measuring 33 weeks at my 31 weeks appointment and had my 34 week appointment last week where I measured 36weeks 😬

So I’m measuring at 97% from a scan🥴 but my bump is on point. Note to self, don’t make friends with the obstetrician and have her book in extra scans for fun to see the baby. I’m now being closely monitored 🙃

Just note, there is a 60% INACCURACY! So scans are only 40% correct 🤦🏼‍♀️ it depends on the babies location etc, so take it all with a pinch of salt and don’t be scare mongered into c-sections or inductions. Your body, your choice!

Fundal height measurement is to see if you have any drastic changes. If for example you're tracking 50% centile for ages and then suddenly shoot up to 75th then that might be a sign of something going on like extra amniotic fluid which would need to be investigated. Similarly, if you rapidly drop bump centiles it can be a sign of static growth which would also need investigation. It's not a perfect science and definitely has it's flaws

I wouldn’t worry about it. Fundal height measurements in the UK seem to be wildly inaccurate because they are supposed to be done consistently by the same provider and earlier than 28 weeks. I had them with my first in the US and it started from 14 weeks till the end and with the same provider so we could track what was normal for my pregnancy. At my 28 week midwife appointment I was apparently measuring “way off the charts” but a growth scan showed baby was 70th percentile.

Agree with what others have said that it's supposedly to check for 'consistency of growth'. The centile doesn't match to baby weight centile at all because every chart is custom to your individual weight and height. So my 90th centile would be different to your 90th centile. They also absolutely have to be done by the same midwife to have even a shred of credibility.

Both pregnancies I came out on completely different centile when I had a different midwife do it. I refused growth scans both times and when my normal midwife measured the following appointment, surprise surprise, it was back on track.

My LG was measuring 96% at 32 weeks and we have another growth scan next week at 36 weeks to see how she’s is growing. I was told not to worry but it is easier said than done. X

My bump has been measuring 4 weeks ahead for the past 6 weeks! About a centimetre above the 100th percentile on the graph 🙈 I’ve had 2 growth scans and the baby on those is measuring on the 50th percentile. So don’t worry about your bump measurements xx

C-Section Infection

I'm almost 4 months postpartum and had a cat2 C-Section. Everything seemed fine when we had gotten home and then where the incision is became infected. Treated it with antibiotics from the doctors and it cleared up. After that it started to open up slightly in places and got infected again. More antibiotics and the openings closed but the infection stayed. I presumed it was just with it being underneath the overhang of my stomach and with the weather being so warm that it was just getting sweaty which was causing it. I got more antibiotics and a steroid/fungal cream which I've been using for a few weeks now but it still has a smell and looks red in places. Any advice before the doctors try to give me more antibiotics? I clean the area multiple times a day and let it air-dry as well as continuous use of the cream🫠

Considering a c section

I need the mamas that have had a c section done. I’m done having kids after this baby (I’ll have two after this one is born) my 2 year old was a vaginal birth. I’m tryna weigh out the pros and cons on having a c section. I wanna know your experiences, how long you were in the hospital for, what your recovery time was before you felt physically “normal” again like had no pain. Now I understand everybody is different with healing and pain tolerance. I just wanna get everyone’s opinion. Also if I were to have a c section would they do the tubal ligation right then and there or would I have to come back to get it done.

Reduced movement

Hey. I was just thinking. What is considered as reduced movement? Assuming you normally feel your baby move 5 times a day. If they moved just 2 times on one day, 4 times the next, once the following day but next to 5 the day after. Is that reduced movement or irregular movement? At what point exactly do you call triage?

Nervous about my waters breaking 😅

This is my second and am so nervous as when and where my waters might break. With my first I was induced and they broke my waters. I know it’s not always like the movies where it’s the big gush but it still makes me so nervous. What if am out, or at toddler group or nursery run or something 🥲 I would hate to be in a public place and people end up making a fuss 😣 I know am over thinking all of this but I can’t help it!
