How do I get rid of a persistent thought?

I went round my friends house nearly a year ago and the past 3 days my brain has been insistent that I left my daughter there. I spend every day with my daughter and we sleep in the same room, but my brain is still insisting that I left her at my friend's and that my daughter isn't my daughter even though I know she is...
I've tried identifying the thought, finding evidence for it and coming up with a logical alternative thought but it doesn't get rid of it.

this sounds like OCD, checking for evidence and coming up with alternative thoughts feed the loop. It’s called a compulsion, it’s not always physical act but mental like checking thoughts etc. I had the same thought but mine was leaving my daughter in the car or at home even though i knew she was there, i would have to physical touch her in the car to make sure i didn’t leave her(never did her entire life) medication and therapy has helped me a ton.

Hey Mama, I understand how difficult persistent thoughts can be … first, give yourself some grace and patience. It takes time to rewire our brains. You’re already a step ahead by being aware. Something that’s been really helpful for me is somatic reframing and taking my worries to God - He responds 🙌 (Philippians 4:8-9)
If you want to know more about somatic reframes and what I do specifically, we can message if you’re open to that. 🫂

This definitely sounds like OCD, unfortunately (but also fortunately because someone CAN help) a professional will be best at helping you through these compulsions and thoughts. A lot of people have described ERP therapy has helped them, but if that is too much stress for you, there are other therapy options (ICBT has also helped many).

I conveniently have a link on OCD therapies available because I was recently looking into it myself. I'm obviously not at a stage to directly help comfort this progression, but there are resources available! I hope you can find peace soon, I know how debilitating OCD can be.
