Friends with another mum but their child is naughty

I’m friends with a mum from church and we both have 3 year olds and we’ve both applied for the same schools for them to go to next year. She has a son and I have a daughter and he’s very naughty. He will make other children cry/ he won’t share toys he’s playing with or he will shout when my daughter says hello to him he will just look away and say no! They have a play kitchen at church and the other day he was playing there and when my daughter went to join in he basically guarded the whole kitchen and toys with his arms so that she couldn’t get to it. Any tips on this? Firstly how to deal with kids who don’t share with your child and how to communicate this to my daughter. Also, would you be friends with a mum if their child misbehaved? It’s not terribly bad but I want to prepare myself now that my daughter will be getting ready for school on how to deal with things like this without making it into a big deal. Bearing in mind they are 3! (Nearly 4)

Also want to add that me and this mum aren’t super close friends. We’ve known each other for a year and message now and again and meet for the odd coffee

I think it depends on how the other mum deals with the situation at the time. If she’s genuinely trying to teach him and taking action to help him understand how to treat others, then I’m sure it could just be a phase. But if she’s not really addressing it or helping him understand, I’d probably personally start to back away a little.
You can’t change how other people parent, but if it’s affecting your daughter and nothing seems to be changing, she doesn’t deserve to keep putting up with it either. All you can really do is keep showing your daughter how to share and be kind, even in front of him. As she gets older, she’ll learn for herself who she enjoys playing with based on how they treat her, and vice versa. That’s just my opinion though xx

I feel like this is such a common experience and there’s no real “best” way to handle things... I’m dealing with something similar except the naughty child is my nephew (also 3), his mom is my sister. So I have the ability to step in with Auntie authority at times when he isn’t following rules, especially if they’re at my house. I’ve talked to her about different parenting techniques and how to teach him sharing, house rules, etc.

But in your case since you aren’t very close with them, I’d probably open that door by asking basic parenting questions.
“how do you feel (child)’s socialization is going?”
See what her answer is… she might feel comfortable admitting that she’s not sure what to do with him sometimes and feels bad about it.
Then talk about different ways to try to help him learn the skill of sharing. He has to learn it from someone.

I’d reframe it. My child behaves like this. It’s not for a lack of decent parenting on my end or that my child is bad or misbehaving, it’s that my child is shy/socially anxious and doesn’t know a better way of dealing with (despite me giving her the knowledge and practice). When other kids are like this with my daughter, I just explain it from that perspective because unless the parent really is crap, it’s more likely just normal toddler behaviour.

Nursery for my toddler when I have my newborn or not?

My toddler will be 2.5 years old when my next baby is born. She hasn’t gone to nursery yet and always had a nanny however she has been “ready” for nursery since she turned about 2. I want to send her but I am so worried about her getting sick while she is adjusting to nursery and passing that on to the newborn who will have a much weaker immune system.

Has anyone else sent their toddler to nursery for the first time while having a newborn and how did you manage all the illnesses/sicknesses they get while settling in?

Christmas 🎄🎁

Any ideas on what I can buy my daughter for Christmas she will be 6 months old? I know she won’t understand but it’s her first Christmas and I want to make it special and buy her some sensory / development toys 😊

need to rant

my fiancée works full time in hospitality so his shifts aren’t consistent, some are late some are early but how does this mean he doesn’t do anything around the house or even help with baby. he’ll only take my son when he’s sleeping and whilst he’s sleeping i tidy the house and as soon as baby wakes he passes him back to me. i’ve tried to tell him how it makes me feel and it just turns into an argument. i don’t even see him anymore as he’s always playing games with his friends. i feel alone in a relationship. i’m so tired

Opinions about daycare

At first, my husband and I both agreed that we wouldn’t send our children to daycare. But my son has a bit of speech delayed and we are on the waiting list for Headstart. I brought it up with my husband to enroll our child in daycare due to the fact that it has been very difficult to make friends or to meet people who have kids about his age.

Babysitting

Hey girls. So my partners little sister is 16 she’s been desperate to babysit my girl who’s 16 months old. I’ve put it off and off as my baby’s quite clingy doesn’t even like me leaving the house when she’s with her dad I only really like my mum or my partner having her as she’s used to that and when we’ve been round his dads house etc and his sister has tried to take Erin off to help us out Erin just kicks off so bad and doesn’t want to leave us. Anyway we went round one night and his dad and step mum was saying we need to arrange a date for Mika to look after Erin for a couple of hours and we will go to the pub down the road from you (not drinking btw) so they’re going to come to the house and then we’re going to leave and go up the road so we can come back if needs be but I just know Erin’s going to absolutely freak when she knows we’re gone and my mum guilt is killing me I do not want to do it at all but I just don’t have the heart to say no or cancel. We went out for a meal last week all of us and we got a message from partners dad to say could you message Mika directly to thank her she has a confidence issue and thinks you guys don’t want her to babysit Erin at all and then said can you message her and say you thought she was great with Erin tonight and that you’re more than happy for her to babysit. Don’t get me wrong she is good with her but I just don’t think it’s fair they’re putting this pressure on us and the reason she’s probably getting the thought we don’t want her to babysit is because we don’t want her to 😵‍💫 what do you guys think? I’m not going to be able to relax at all tomorrow and I’m dreading it so much. I know I shoukd stick up for myself but it’s such an awkward situation
