Pessary induction

I’m currently getting induced. I’ve been in hospital since Thursday. I had a pessary put in as soon as I arrived and had it in for 24 hours. I had period like cramps after having it but nothing else happened. Yesterday I was told I wouldn’t need another one and instead my waters would be broken today. Just been told by my midwife that I’m having another pessary today (I haven’t had my cervix checked since I arrived in hospital at 6:30am Thursday) Did anyone else have a second pessary and did it do anything?? Feel like I wasted a whole day yesterday doing nothing when I could’ve had the pessary in and out by now. Just so frustrated

Yes, I had secondary pessary and nothing happened. Cervix still closed and painful cervical checks! Opted for c-section in the end. It was exhausting being on a ward with lots of noise constantly which meant no sleep - even if I had gone into labour I dont think I would have had the energy to push baby out. However, I have friends who have had pessary and gone into labour soon after. I hope all goes well for you - don't be afraid to speak up and advocate for yourself. I requested additional baby monitoring and they found that babys heart rate was dipping with every contraction even though I wasn't feeling any contractions so they removed second pessary early. Also, you can request gas and air for cervical checks.

I would advise not going for a second and to ask for other options. I was induced by pessary (unfortunately babies heart rate was dropping so it came out) but they kept on doing checks and monitoring for 5 days and baby didn’t cope well. Ended up going breech and emergency c-section. Do what you feel is comfortable for you, your body and your baby.

This happened to me they could be trying to make your cervix more favourable before breaking waters. I was told waters would be broken after first pessary then got told no need another one to make my cervix more favourable as was still far back. Anyway it worked my cervix came forward didn’t dilate anymore but waters were broken and I had a lovely natural birth after having had c section on previous birth.

Not a good update - Had the secondary pessary put in at 1:45 and by 6pm I was having contractions. Told the midwife and she gave me paracetamol (don’t think the believed I was having contractions). By 11pm I was in so much pain having no breaks between any of the contractions. Told the midwife again and she gave me codeine, done be observations and put me on the monitor. She seen that my contractions were intense and back to back but didn’t say anything. 7 hours I was on that bed alone on the ward in so much pain. Finally another midwife came round and seen that I was suffering. She put me on the monitor straight away, told me to remove the pessary asap and gave me an injection to stop the contractions which didn’t work. Still having painful contractions now but they’re more manageable after having the injection. Waiting for my cervix to be checked, cross fingers I’ve dilated more as the next step will be to get my waters broke.

When the second midwife had me on the monitor, she told the first midwife that neglected me to have a look at my contractions and the smirk on her face was unreal!! It was like she found it funny that I was left alone on the bed for 7 hours in excruciating pain. Luckily baby girl wasn’t stressed too much. My tens machine has definitely been a lifesaver last night!! Had no sleep at all and nothing to eat so absolutely drained now
