I’m due to give birth soon and I’m considering getting an IUD fitted at the time or soon after. Can you please share your experiences of either copper or hormonal IUDs? I’m leaning more towards copper. I’ve never used any form of contraception before (apart from condoms) so I’m quite anxious about potential side effects

I just gotten the hormonal marina (i think its called) i would have had it a month on wensday so far i have just had period like bleeding from day one without stopping apparently it can happen for the first 6 months so im hoping itll stop soon
I had a couple sharp pains when i first had it in for about a week but i dont have them anynore
It wasnt painful having it incerted (i was 4 months pp)
I was told not to go for copper coil if you have heavy or painful periods as it can make it worse hence why i went for hormonal since my periods are awfully heavy

Ive had the Mirena IUD 3 times now and it has been amazing. It stopped my periods pretty much. The hormone stays local in your uterus too.
The copper coil is known to make your periods heavier and more painful. 3 of my friends had the copper coil and all had it removed within a few months but everyone is different

I had the copper coil although this was pre pregnancy so cannot comment on what it would be like after. For me getting it inserted was no problem just a slight discomfort but I did get bad pains for the next couple days but after that I could have forgotten about it. It also made my periods lighter and shorter so it was the best thing ever for me (I know they usually say the opposite). I contemplated getting another after I had my little one but initially was told it was best to wait about 8 weeks (I think) before getting kt to give your uterus time to go down a bit. I think if you had it straight away and while your uterus is still contracting down it may try to expell it

I had the copper coil years ago and spent 6 months HEAVILY bleeding. Ruined my sex life.
I got the hormone one fitted during my c section. My c section was 23rd September and it FELL out on the 9th October - apparently common after a c section. I was lightly bleeding but unsure if related to birth or coil but stopped once the coil fell out.
I took this test yesterday (5 dpo) and it's the boots 5 days early pregnancy test, i thought it was an early positive but now im doubting it because apparently there tests aren't very reliable and have indent lines all the time? but this showed up right away...i hate the 2 week wait

We have been backwards and forwards on having another for a long time but I think we are pretty set on trying for a 2nd. Does anyone have any useful advice or tips on having a second child?!

Hi mums! I'm desperate for some advice regarding setting boundaries with my mother.
For context, my husband (27) and I (25) currently live at home with my parents. I'm pregnant with our first baby during the week of Christmas and struggling with trying to set boundaries with my mother regarding our baby especially within the first few weeks of her life.
My mother is under the impression that I need to follow in the same footsteps as my older sister who allowed visitors in hospital to her twin babies within days of them being born, however I do not feel comfortable with this as I am due to give birth during peak flu/illness season and Christmas, and I am wary about getting our baby ill, plus the fact that I will be recovering from birth already at home with my parents and I would like to spend time with my husband and our baby, learning how to breastfeed and getting used to being a family together and building routines with our baby before we start passing her around to visitors. My mother is adamant that regardless of when our baby is born, there will be lots of family coming to visit myself and the baby when I have stated my discomfort with visitors directly after giving birth and I feel at my wits end trying to explain that I would really like to decide for myself when I feel that I am ready for anyone to visit.
My dilemma is that we live at home with my parents and it is their house: I know I do not have the right to tell them who they can and cannot have in their house at any point but I would have hoped that I could at least have time with my newborn baby and husband as a new family and time for me to recover from birth. Since our baby is due around Christmas there is the possibility that she could be born on Christmas Day or Boxing Day, for example. Our family visits on Boxing Day for gifts and Christmas dinner, and my mother insists that she will not stop the family from visiting on Boxing Day if I do end up giving birth within that week before or on Boxing Day.
Is there any way I can get through to her about my discomfort around visitors without sounding like I am trying to police who visits her home? She has told me I can just stay in my bedroom with the baby whilst the family visits but I cannot be locked in my bedroom all day with my baby just to avoid unwanted visitors. My sister in law tells me that my mother is being unreasonable and that since it is my baby I should be able to decide when I am ready for visitors, but she does live at home with us and my mother will not budge.
Please help!
