Any other premature babies here?

Our little girl decided to make her entrance 7 weeks early and is now 8 weeks old! 💗

I was just wondering if there are any other premature baby mums in here and how you’re all getting on?

Our little girl is strong, healthy, gaining weight beautifully and doing so well. 🥰

But I have to admit, one thing I’m finding quite frustrating is the constant emphasis from health professionals on her corrected age.

I completely understand why corrected age is important, especially when monitoring development, but sometimes it feels as though her first 7 weeks don’t count. Almost as though there’s no possibility she could be developing at a similar pace to a full-term baby of her actual age.

From what we’re seeing, aside from being a little smaller, she’s developing beautifully and seems to be doing everything we’d expect for her age. She’s growing wonderfully, becoming more alert and even took her vaccinations like an absolute little hero! 💪🏼💕

I suppose I just wish there was a little more recognition of how well these tiny fighters can do, rather than everything being measured against how early they arrived.

I’m genuinely interested to hear from other premature baby mums. Have you felt the same way? How have your little ones developed, and how have you found the whole corrected-age conversation?

(Sorry if that sounds a bit ranty! 😂 I’m incredibly grateful for all the care she’s received, just interested to hear other experiences.) 💗

I felt the same when our HV explained it to us too, my babies were 7 weeks early and had the most horrific reflux. I’d read online that it normally gets better from 3-4 months onwards, so was looking forward to this. But once the HV explained the difference in corrected age and chronological age, it felt like a punch in the gut. Like everything they had been through for the first 7 weeks didn’t count for anything. Now they are 10 weeks corrected and developing really well for this age, I get why they say chronological age doesn’t matter till age 2, but it’s hard to keep up sometimes. And the looks we get from other parents when we explain why our kids aren’t on the same milestones as theirs, even though they were born 1 week apart from each other, is so tiresome.

My little one came at 38 +2 but had fetal growth restriction so was the size of a premie baby at 4lb 10oz but lost 5% in two days due to jaundice and we ended up back in hospital. I worry she’ll not develop the same as other babies as she’s still so little for 8 weeks old. Luckily, she seems to be making the right developments but I do wonder as she grows how she’ll do.

My son was 4 weeks early and had FGR so was only 4 pound 4 ounces, I also find it really irritating the emphasis on corrected age but sometimes it is useful to see why something might not be happening exactly on time. For example my little one didn’t smile until he was 9 weeks but in terms of corrected age he was early to be smiling! So it’s sometimes good but I completely get it, I had people saying well he’s not even meant to be here yet and I’d think well he is here!!

Scan pictures not available at 12w scan- alternatives?

I had my 12w scan this morning at St Thomas’ but they said they have run out of scan paper so can’t provide photos from the appt. Obviously, our top priority is baby being healthy (and it was - v wriggly!) but I can’t help feeling a bit sad that we don’t have the strip of photos as we’ve planned to visit my family up north in 2 weeks and wanted to share them.

We had 6w scan at Fetal medical centre on Harley street which gave us the strip, but they will now only do full Nuchal at 12w which is £200, and we had a 10w scan at Hey Baby Clapham, but they gave you photos like 6x4 photo paper and I’d love the strip so it’s immediately obvious what it is, and to save for future memory book etc!

Sorry if this sounds so silly, I know it’s only a strip of photos, but has anyone else had any private scans that will do photos at 12w that doesn’t cost the full price of a detailed Nuchal scan?

Braxton hicks

Is anyone experiencing Braxton hicks yet?
This is my third pregnancy and I’ve never experienced them before, Google says it feels like fake contractions and tighten tummy etc but honestly this feels different to any contractions I’ve had before. It’s like a pressure build up and so often a sharp pain
(I have been to triage and all is good)

Such a weird experience compared to what I was expecting it to be like

First steps - walking already

Hi mums!
My baby did her first three steps just 2 weeks before she turned 9 months.
She then did several times 1 or 2 steps, but then she lose her balance.
Has any other Jan baby done a few steps?
If so, how long after your baby started walking ? 🥹
