Weening baby and judgy grandparents

My little one is 8 months old and she has been weening since 6 months. She still only really eats puree or blended down food. She will eat little snack puffs and she can eat banana if cut up enough but she isn’t on solids so to speak yet. All I get from both grandparents is “she should be eating this by now” “she should be eating toast and pancakes” “she’s hungry and your not feeding her” . Honestly it’s getting to me. My little still doesn’t know how to chew properly yet so I’m very anxious of choking. Is anyone else going through this?

Whilst I don't agree with grandparents sticking their nose in....there is something to be said for giving real food. They can't learn to chew if they don't have the opportunity to learn and practice. So giving solids in an appropriately prepared way is a good idea.

Hey so my bubba is now 11 months. It wasn’t until about 8-9 months that he finally “got it”. Getting 6 teeth helped. Don’t stress, your child will get there, and when she does, she will be unstoppable!

I skipped purees and did solids straight out the gate, I downloaded this app called solid starts its pediatrician ran and has instructions for every food item under the sun.

It tells you how to prep it for doffernt ages 6 months, 9 months, ect ect. Its free unless you want recipes but id skip that because it wasnt really worth the real value in the app is in the free section just telling you how to prep items.

Since she has no experience really chewing id start her at the 6 month prep area and start bumping her up as she develops the skill to chew.

I also recommend getting a lifevac or another form of suction based emerncy choking relief I have one never had to use it but its there just in case. I'd also watch some videos on how to help a infant thats choking i see so many parents just tapping the back of their kids back as if they are burping them.

Solids are scary, but can be done safely with the right recourses.

Hope this helps!

Just ignore them or ask them to respect your parenting decisions. The idea of choking is scary to a new parent. Babies are generally really unlikely to actually choke though, it’s gagging that’s common. If you serve toast etc it’s unlikely they’ll eat much but the practise helps them. At that age my girl would suck fruit puree off toast / suck a steak strip etc and she’d 11 months now with only 1 tooth but eats mostly everything xx

While the grandparents’ approach is inappropriate, they are right. Your little one is ready for real food. The later your introduce solids, the more easy it is to choke - when they are young, the gag reflux sits at the very front of the mouth, so gagging is great, and doesn’t mean choking was prevented per se, it just means the reflux is working. It moves backwards as the baby gets older, so if solids are introduced later, they don’t have that protective mechanism in place as they learn to chew.

Of course they can’t chew! They haven’t been able to chew! Get the solid starts app and get some food tethers if you’re anxious - long thick slices of steak, chicken bone, mango pit, etc.

Personally, I would avoid, if at all possible, snack puffs. They melt in your mouth and teach kids zero eating skills. There isn’t a real food that melts like that, so it can give kids a false sense of security and understanding of how food works.

Grandparents aren’t always wrong, but I’m sorry you’re

Dealing with them overstepping a bit like this. But definitely read up a bit more on introducing solids so that you are prepared and set your kiddo up for a safe and productive weaning process

Child maintenance

Need some advice 🙏🏻 recently separated with my kids dad. So far it has gone alright but he’s starting to step away more and more from their life’s. I haven’t looked into child maintenance yet but feel the need to stand up for my rights. Been trying to contact citizens advice but it’s impossible to get hold of them.

Would love some personal stories or advice on how to get this into action.

For context, I have the kids 60-70% of the time. The dad is admin he’s doing 50% of the work (like speaking to a brick wall).

Thanks 🙏🏻

Need a ride to liverpool (urgent please help)

I’ve made posts about leaving my abusive partner with my 6month old.
To do so i need to get his passport done urgently in liverpool, but it would be a long journey with trains and just me alone. At the end of this month.
Anyone who could help with a ride or a tag along? Even just a ride there OR back would be absolutely so amazing and i would be forever grateful.

Dad of the year

My baby had her first dentist appointment where she’s got teeth. Me and her dad are co-parenting. He picked her up the night before and messaged me in the morning saying she’s got a dentist appointment. I asked him why he didn’t tell me the night before to remind me and he said he was booked ages ago and I should’ve remembered. I then asked him what the dentist was called so I could at least get a taxi and make the appointment. I called him numerous times and messaged him well before the appointment, he read it and chose not to reply till after the appointment was finished. All I can think of that he’s done this on purpose, as I’ve said to him in the past I don’t want to miss out on any firsts. He also tries to make out like he’s an amazing dad because he took her to the appointment and I didn’t go. It’s really upset me as I am on my own with no support and he’s got his family. I try so hard to be the best mum I can be for my girl but he tries his hardest to put me down. Rant over!!!😂

On this weeks episode of “what did I do to make my toddler mad”

5. I wouldn’t let him eat cat food

4. Wouldn’t give him the ball back after he threw it at his little brothers head ( toddler turns 2 next month and baby brother is 7 months old and was in his bouncer. Yes he got revenge later when toddler tried to hug him and he pulled toddlers hair and laughed 🤦🏻‍♀️😂🤦🏻‍♀️)

3. I didn’t let him throw out the dirty diaper

2. I made him get dressed after his bath and he couldn’t run around naked

1. He drank his entire cup of lemonade and was mad at me because it was empty 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Picture is from his nap on the couch ( he has made great use of my pregnancy pillow to nap with and yes I have to put the plushies around him or he won’t sleep. They have to be organized a certain way and god help me if we ever loose his Cookie Monster plushie ) I’m already planning on going back to sea world just to get 3 more in the Sesame Street area because I’m scared he’s going to loose it or somehow get it dirty and he will not nap or go to bed without it🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Partners who work long hours

Hi! I’m wondering how moms juggle it all and still find fulfillment in daily life if they have a partner who works all the time. I’m a FTM of a 3 month old and my husband works 13-16hr days, his days off are far and few between and they often could change at the last minute. During his working days he doesn’t see her other than one of the middle of the night feeds he helps me with which I’m super grateful for. We don’t have family near by for help and mother helpers/Nannie’s in our area are about $36/hr which is out of our price range at the moment but I’m finding myself extremely drained and I know it’s only the beginning. I’m thinking of military spouses, spouses of Doctors and Chefs etc. how do you all do it? I’d love some pointers ❤️
