30 minute daytime naps

My LO is 5 months old next week and she can't nap in the day for longer than 30 minutes. Her wake window is 2 - 2.5 hours, she goes to sleep being rocked and transfers to the cot with no issues but just wont sleep for long. Any tips on how to stretch the nap?

Absolutely no idea but im holding on to the fact that its developmental and they will get longer as they get older because theyre driving me bloody mad!!

My eldest was the same until she magically started napping longer at 6 months old. I didn't do anything, she just got the hang of it herself. Hang in there and keep it up - she will get there very soon! In the same boat currently with my 5 month old and feel your pain 🥲

My first was exactly the same. He's quite low sleep needs. Dropped all naps by the time he was 18 months 🫠 xx

Could have written this myself. 5 months exactly and daytime naps are 28 minutes almost precisely 😂😭 only different if in the Doona car seat and I happen to rock it at exactly 27 minute mark. Holding out hope that it magically increases one day as can’t see anyway to manufacture it otherwise!

We’re 5 months tomorrow. Night time sleep has sorted itself out (we got the lovely wake ups every 40 minutes from 2am onwards) but day time is still 40mins on the dot…. Which not coincidentally is the average length of a sleep cycle for her age. I just keep telling myself she will learn to connect them at some point 🙃🤣 I wouldn’t mind; but I know she needs one of her naps to be at least 1hour 20/30 because if she doesn’t (most days!) she is a nightmare at night. I can only get her to connect them during contact naps where I can help her with a dummy/rocking.

Which night be a trick for you: If you know the length; can you be there and do the second part as a contact naps. When they start to stir, pick them up and cuddle them? It’s unlikely you’ll be able to put them back down (at least I’ve never successfully managed with mine) but I embrace the cuddles since most of her naps are independent now.

I’m in the same boat. Almost like clockwork after 30 mins and usually needs rocked and transferred. Today he self settled in the cot twice and one nap was 2 hours! It’ll probably change again tomorrow lol

Healing advice

Hi everyone!

I had my first baby 8 days ago and unfortunately the birth didn’t quite go to plan, needing suction and an episiotomy.

I’ve been in so much pain and upon getting my stitches checked have found that the wound has opened and cannot be re-stitched due to risk of infection.

Has anyone experienced this? I’m looking for some advice on how long I can expect to be in this pain as something to work towards 🤞🏼

The pesky 4:30–6:30am feed… how do we break the cycle? 😴

Hi mums! I have an almost 6-month-old, and I think we’ve been pretty lucky with sleep so far.

We have a solid bedtime routine, and he’s getting better at going down drowsy but awake. He usually settles himself, and overnight he might stir once or twice, but a quick dummy replacement normally does the trick.

Our current struggle is this pesky early morning feed! For the last 2–3 weeks, he’s been waking anywhere between 4:30 and 6:30am. We try the dummy, but he spits it out and keeps stirring every 15 minutes until we eventually pick him up and give him a feed. He doesn’t always take a full feed, but after 15–20 minutes he goes straight back to sleep until around 8am.

He has three naps during the day, usually anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, and he’s feeding well throughout the day, so I don’t think it’s down to him not getting enough milk.

The problem is that by the time he’s back asleep, I’m pretty much up for the day, so it’s really affecting my sleep! Previously, he’d sleep until around 7am, which was much more manageable.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Do we keep offering the dummy and hope he eventually drops this feed, or is he genuinely hungry and we should just accept it for now? Would love to hear what worked for you! ❤️

Ferber sleep training 6.5 month old

Hi everyone! My LO is 6.5 months old. Sleeps from 7pm-7am and is currently on 2/3 naps a day. He can’t be put down without rocking and patting each time, so I was considering this method. I just wanted a little insight on this method!

Milk at 1

Hi my baby is 1 tomorrow and I’ve just had my HV appointment who basically said she doesn’t need milk anymore now not even cows milk but obviously if she can’t drop it then swap it for cows milk.

How many bottles are your 12 months having? And also what bottle do you put it in?

We’ve still got about half a tub of formula so I’m going to use that first anyways.

Sex before 6 weeks postpartum

Genuinely.. has anybody had sex before 6 weeks postpartum? I really really wanted to wait but my sex drive has been to the fricken moon and I caved in a few days ago and for some reason I feel really guilty about it 😔 I’m 4 weeks postpartum, had a vaginal delivery with no tears or stitches. And I completely stopped bleeding a few days before I had sex. Is there even a point in waiting an extra 2 weeks since the deed is done or..? 😭
