Natural birth or C Section

Hi ladies,

So for the past 8 months I have been told that there was no way on God’s green earth that I would have a natural birth:
Every scan/ obstetrician’s appointment was the same.
Constantly being told it is a miracle I conceived naturally due to the amount & sizes of uterine fibroids I have.
Most times the radiologist gives up counting and the last scan at 34 weeks I was told they counted 9 sizeable fibroids and they wouldn’t bother counting/measuring the rest as we had run out of time. I was told all 9 measured between 7- 10cm (size of a small melon).

Also my babies head was now facing downwards as would be expected in preparation for birth. However there was a large fibroid right underneath his head by the entrance of my cervix. (I have always been aware of this fibroid in my cervix) it was the main reason I was told that I wouldn’t be able to have a natural birth due to high risk of haemorrhaging.

With all this, I had made peace with the fact that I would be having a planned C section from day 1. Hospital bags are packed etc. I am currently 37+2.

Fast forward today, I went in for a final scan (having more scans than usual due to the high risk nature of other pregnancy).
Miraculously I was told the babies head has now gone past the cervix fibroid and there is actually enough distance between the fibroid and my baby (up to 4cm) and so if I wanted I could have a natural birth. Without saying too much, it felt like the registrar was nudging me towards a natural vaginal birth now that I have the option.

This has thrown me completely and I genuinely don’t know what decision to take.
I have been told I need to make a decision by next week, when the CS scheduling team call me.

Vaginal birth obviously means that I get left alone to go into natural labour at full term etc, but a C section would be at 39 weeks. Less than 2 weeks away.

Please help a girl out.
What would you do if it were you?
Any advice welcome.

Quite a lot of information there! I can totally understand your worries ...
I actually would still go for a C section due to the risks of bleeding.. babys position can still change during labour (as I found out with my daughter) and so if baby's head just came up again a small bit, would the risk then be back ? Unbeknownst to you, and then it could be worrying....
But there are still risks with sections and it just really depends what risk you are happy to take I guess lovely xx

Im booked in for my c section on Tuesday - this was elective due to wanting to plan around my toddler.
If I were in your shoes I would consider the C section. It just allows you to plan and there is the possibility baby can move between now and going into natural labour. That could also be a risk? I guess the registrar also has to give you all options available when it comes to birthing your baby.

In terms of post recovery, vaginal birth is generally better. I’ve had two and I would be devastated if I couldn’t do it again, even with the post partum haemorrhage I had after my last.
Having said that, I don’t know what a c-section is like to compare, just the thought of major surgery and recovery seems like a lot. My friend had a haemorrhage after a c-section so there can be complications with both.
I think you should just go with your heart truly wants and what they best advise.
Good luck with whatever you choose x

Low lying anterior placenta

I had a low lying placenta at my 20 week scan and I’ve just had another scan at 29 weeks and it still hasn’t moved up. Has anyone had it move later on in pregnancy?

8 weeks pregnant

I'm 8 weeks pregnant and honestly am this close 🤏🏼 to stopping eating and drinking all together. The nausea is never ending and i get no relief no matter what i eat or drink. I am gaining weight already because i am trying to eat beige foods to relieve the nausea and its not working anyway. So i'm gaining weight with no benefit. 🤬 I have tried all the little tricks and nothing works. Bland foods, little and often, sips of fluid, crackers, sweets, ginger, orange juice, flapjacks, biscuits. I dont want to eat and have no apetite but forcing myself to for the nausea. Everything tastes wrong, even the things i crave. 🤯 I am exhausted with no time to actually rest. 🫩

C-Section Mamas

I had an emergency C-section at the start of September, and I haven’t had my 6 week discharge/follow up appointment come through from the NHS yet. Are we meant to organise this or is an appointment sent out? Can’t wait to find out when I can start some light exercise and scar massage etc! I’ve had other appointments since but nothing that focuses on this. Thank you 🙏🏼

Baby BOY name ideas! 🩵🍼

I’m pregnant with my first baby. We are expecting a little boy in mid January.
My partner and I have a few names on our list that we like, however I fear none of them are “his name”.
I’ve had the name Jude picked out for a boy for a very long time, since my early teenage years. I love it, but it’s become ridiculously popular now. 🥲💔💔 This really puts me off using it!

We are loving the name Saul at the moment.
Can anyone give us some inspo for a middle name for Saul? Our surname is two-syllables and begins with L.

When to go to hospital?

My understanding was when contractions seem to be averaging around 50-60 seconds every 5 minutes for an hour at least when it’s your first baby, to call triage and most likely go in.

I have just called as I now meet this and had bloody mucus first thing this morning, I didn’t want to travel 40 minutes to hospital to then be sent home again so wanted to ask their advice.

I have several medical conditions that need managing (obstetric consultant advised labour can progress quickly with my condition and to go straight to the delivery unit to begin some clotting medication and make the on call anaesthetist aware as soon as I arrive to start my care plans) and the cardiac paediatric team want to be present when baby is born due to potential heart issues.

The midwife advised if I go now they’d normally keep me in the antenatal ward but they have no beds so would have to send me home if in latent labour, which she thinks I am in. She has advised I wait until I am having contractions 1-2minutes apart before calling to go in, despite acknowledging my care plan and above consultant advise.

Is it just me or does 1-2 minutes feel quite late?
