How do people deal with colds and flu when you are breastfeeding and can't take cold and flu tablets? I had my flu jab yesterday but they said that it takes 2 weeks to work. My husband has a nasty cold and is taking cold and flu tablets, I can feel myself starting to get it but I checked with the doctor today and they said that I cant take the tablets due to breastfeeding as there is a decongestant ingredient which impacts the milk. How do people manage to care for their baby while fighting sickness and trying to avoid passing it on to them?

I have had a bad case of flu, I have had paracetamol and then ibuprofen at the worst points. If you check with the GP I'm sure they can recommend drugs that are compatible with breastfeeding

Water water and more water is how i survived mine recently

There are definitely still things you can take/use whilst breastfeeding. Paracetamol and ibuprofen are fine if you can normally take them. The ingredient you really want to avoid is pseudoephedrine as this has been shown to reduce milk supply.
The Breastfeeding Network has some really good fact sheets about what you can/can’t take while breastfeeding.
As for baby, they’ll be getting antibodies through your milk so likely to be more mild illness if they do get it. Avoiding it will be hard but regular handwashing, catching sneezes in tissues, coughing into your elbow, regular disinfecting of high touch areas etc. can all reduce the risk of transmission.

Paracetamol and ibuprofen and sitting in the bathroom with the shower running really hot to make it steamy. Ive had a cough and cold the past 2 weeks and its been hell but paracetamol and ibuprofen do take the edge off a bit. The antibodies in your milk will help protect baby and if they do catch it it will be very mild. My little one has been lucky so far not to catch it

I second the breastfeeding network, there is a specific type of robitussin cough suppressant you can take and there is a nasal decongestant you can take as long as it has a certain ingredient in it. It begins with x I think but I don’t even want to guess at the name lol. I found both on the breastfeeding network, took them on two diff occasions and no drop in supply x

Honey, lemon and water with 2 paracetamol is great for soothing a cold while ur breastfeeding, just google for the measurements
Has anyone got any advice on sleep training? My nearly 15 week old is fine at night sleeps in her moses basket in our room still but in the day she will not go down in the cot in the living room as soon as I put her down she’s awake and won’t go back to sleep 😩

I placed her on her back. When we woke for feeding she was on my belly. 🥴

My baby is almost 11 months old and he’s always fed to sleep even at bedtime. Now I feel like he’s starting to drop bottles, I struggle to get him to nap.
Like today, he had a filling lunch so refused his 3.30pm bottle for his nap, I resorted to having to drive around in the car to get him to sleep. I tried rocking and he just cries and tried to turn.
Any ideas on how I can start to get him to fall asleep with no bottle?

My daughter is 11months and can get up on the sofa but she jumps around on it like she has 9 lives, which obviously doesn’t really mix with a kid who has no sense of danger. She doesn’t get off safely and i can’t trust her to be on it but she’s desperate to do it since shes figured it out. Shes in a climbing phase anything she can be on she is, shes relentless too
My sons 4 and i can’t remember how i did it with him it’s like he just got it randomly, he still climbed alot but always safely
How did you get your young children to be safer on the sofa or just things in general?

Im a FTM and my 5 week old daughter is going through a stage of either not sleeping or sleeping too long, This morning she woke up at 4 and didn’t go back to sleep until 9:30, Between that time she had about 12oz of milk and slept for 8 hours, Has anyone else had this with their baby? Should I be worried and wake her up if she sleeps for that long again? Just looking for a bit of advice
