My toddler is 18 months old and I'm worried about her talking skills. She can understand me and follow basic directions (like "come here" and "no feet on the table" and "give it to me") and she makes a lot of sounds but she only uses actual words occasionally. I'm just wondering if I should like be concerned and also how I can teach her to use more words?

My son is 2 and isn't talking yet. He makes lots of sounds but no actual words although today he said moo and I cried lol He's been referred for speech therapy but they weren't too concerned as he understands everything you say to him and follows instructions well. Try not to panic. Maybe speak to health visitor see if she can be referred too x

I wouldn't be concerned...my girl will be 18 months on the 29th. She says Dada like crazy (of course slightly annoying cause I wanna hear mama 🙄🤣) but does a lot of babbling and noise making. She understands and can take direction as well. I work with her of course but right now life is at her pace. Ive been told by multiple people including her dr that its totally normal. She said words will start spilling out within the next few months. If not then to talk to her again and see what's up. Doing great mama!!

Hi! I also have an 18m girl and I’d say I talk to her using normal words and tone. And when she wants something I make her tell me AND show me, For example say she wants Cheerios she will point and il say I don’t know what you are pointing to so she will say ( cheeros) 😂 than I say ok get me your bowel please, and she will go in the drawer we keep her bowels in and give it to me and say ( bowel ) il say thank you now would you like cheerios inside your bowl? Which she will nod her head and say (yeah peez ). It’s all about repetition and showing them words in action. You and your daughter got this! 🫶

My son just turned 18 months old a couple weeks ago and he can't reslly say clear words yet. He understands the things we are saying to him such as your daughter does but doesn't always communicate words clearly.
I don't have a lot of advice as far as how to teach more words except to continue talking to her like normal. Reading books is a good way to help with their vocabulary as well.
If anyone else has any pointers, please chime in. I'd love to hear them too! Hope this helps a little mama. You're doing great ❤️

My son is 18 m and when he was 12 m he would say a few words and now doesn’t say much. I voiced my concern to his ped and got him a referral to be evaluated. He was evaluated yesterday and He starts speech therapy next week for twice a week. He understands everything as well and much more than I realize some times but to me he is so smart. He makes sounds and I can hear W, P, M, B sounds but all he wants to say is dada and doesn’t want to try repeating after me.

Aw thanks sm guys🩷

I think what helps my 18 mo with words is reading the same books over and over but not always reading the book word for word, sometimes just super simple, slow saying “open” “close” for flaps pointing at the animal and making the noise and just doing it multiple times everyday. I learned that he doesn’t necessarily need a bunch of books but a few good ones that he likes to read over and over because the repetition is how he learns. I think he would have us read books all day lol. I also think he’s learned so much from grandparents and aunty.
Right now he says Wawa, up, down, help, eat, bubble, me, meow, baa, mama, bapa(grandpas name), open he says “ope”, if he says a horse he’ll make a little neigh sound and point. He signs for more, help, eat, all done, milk and thank you -which we learned form the ‘My first signs book with the very hungry caterpillar.’ I’m sure I’m forgetting some but I’m noticing he says a new word almost everyday recently.

Hi! My son is now 20 months old counting to 10. What we do is when we allow the hour tv time a day we sit with them and count and sing with them. And then also creating dialogues with them. They may not understand but just keep having small convos with them. It helps a lot.

When I take my son with me food shopping. I talk to him and identify the items I’m purchasing. For an example, when we go to the produce aisle I show him apples and bananas and then I sing the song apples and bananas haha. I get looks like I’m a weirdo. Haha. I’m a certified weirdo who happens to have my son thriving lol 🤷🏽♀️

Also remember kids thrive at their own time. As long as you are doing your part they will get there! Keep it up queen! We are all here rooting for ya 🥰
Has anyone got any advice on sleep training? My nearly 15 week old is fine at night sleeps in her moses basket in our room still but in the day she will not go down in the cot in the living room as soon as I put her down she’s awake and won’t go back to sleep 😩

I placed her on her back. When we woke for feeding she was on my belly. 🥴

My baby is almost 11 months old and he’s always fed to sleep even at bedtime. Now I feel like he’s starting to drop bottles, I struggle to get him to nap.
Like today, he had a filling lunch so refused his 3.30pm bottle for his nap, I resorted to having to drive around in the car to get him to sleep. I tried rocking and he just cries and tried to turn.
Any ideas on how I can start to get him to fall asleep with no bottle?

My daughter is 11months and can get up on the sofa but she jumps around on it like she has 9 lives, which obviously doesn’t really mix with a kid who has no sense of danger. She doesn’t get off safely and i can’t trust her to be on it but she’s desperate to do it since shes figured it out. Shes in a climbing phase anything she can be on she is, shes relentless too
My sons 4 and i can’t remember how i did it with him it’s like he just got it randomly, he still climbed alot but always safely
How did you get your young children to be safer on the sofa or just things in general?

Im a FTM and my 5 week old daughter is going through a stage of either not sleeping or sleeping too long, This morning she woke up at 4 and didn’t go back to sleep until 9:30, Between that time she had about 12oz of milk and slept for 8 hours, Has anyone else had this with their baby? Should I be worried and wake her up if she sleeps for that long again? Just looking for a bit of advice
